I think the idea with end hostilities was to hose enchantment creatures. They were in standard at the same time after all.

Came here to say this. Yeah, otherwise the bestowed enchantment turns into a normal creature once its host dies, right?

also it can help to destroy entchantments on creatures that survive be it indestructable or regenerated so any aura on it also will be lost for that surviving creature [but yeah equipment and bestowed are the maintargets ]

Final Judgement has my all time favorite art of MtG, this thing gives me chills down my spine, I can easily picture myself as one of the soldiers and it is pretty scary.

Wrath is one of those cards and effects which a great for kitchen table magic and sometimes find their way into competitive play, but you acurately explained why they rarely do: most agro decks which need to be wrathed often get your life total so low that even after a wrath, you are still in trouble. I will always remember "Captain Tickles", Giant Soilfuge. The 4/1 haste and trample spider with shroud for four. If you are the agro deck, turns 1, 2, and 3 you brought agressive creatures and beat face, they tao put to cast wrath, and then you smash them with 4 power and haste, and they cannot even single taret remove it.

End hostilities was great in standard because Bestow was a thing. Normally you could kind of dodge wrath’s because you’d still have your bestow creatures. End Hostilities made that not a thing and was a big nerf to the mechanic

Day of Judgement is mostly a worse version of wrath but you didn't mention that the person playing DOJ can have creatures with regenerate. That would give it a small bonus of wrath.

RE end hostilities, the upside wasn't actually for equipment. In that block we got bestow creatures, which would enchant a creature but when that creature died they would become creatures themselves. A standard wrath would leave your opponent with any bestow creatures they had, while end hostilities would clear everything.

I still remember my prime in mtg was ravnica block(started at the mid m11) I ran 4 color midrange with supreme verdict, terminus, resto Angel thragtusk, huntmaster Angel of serenity, azorious charm, feeling of dread terminus, bonfire of the damned, tamiyo. With other staple and all the dualy land I needed it was such an amazing deck to play. Took 1st 2nd or 3rd every fnm. Ahh the good times. Unfortunately, magic is a costly hobby I have been off and on with it for awhile, just now getting back into it

During theros-khans standard there was keyword called bestow. End hostilities does get rid off those creatures also which is notable upside.

4:35 Day of Judgement isn't strictly worse because it allows you to wipe your opponent's board and regenerate your own board

No because regenerate is green and green decks don't play creatures to regenerate. Maybe if you are playing Bant control in legacy and you have Thrun the Last Troll but Thrun the Last Troll is mostly a sideboard card and you wouldn't even want to board it in against decks which you can wrath.

Tbh, I feel like if Bogles picks up again any time in the near future End Hostilities may see some sideboard play. Also, I expected to see Austere Command or an Elspeth on the list, but I noticed that the first card listed was essentially a cheaper Austere Command.

It's a board cleaner for sure but it is debatable if it's a true "wrath" since Terminus doesn't destroy or exile.

@@thefloydfan7092 Its effectively a wrath. Probably he best wrath in the right deck. Back when Top was legal, legacy decks were firing those off anytime they wanted. Even in the current legacy format, they are still firing off Terminus whenever they want thanks to brainstorm.

love settle, it doesn't hit your creatures and it's instant speed for 4 mana. it should be on here. also thought I would see rout from invasion. it was a good wrath effect but expensive if you wanted instant speed

I'm a little surprised that Nevinyrral's Disk didn't make this list. I think I understand the absence of Miracle cards and Cyclonic Rift, as you're looking for cards with rules texts most similar to Wrath of God, not just effects that clear the board as their result. but if Cleansing Nova gets featured, I think it's remiss to not find a spot to give at least an H.M. to the card that is ultimately one of the very best like this that ever will be printed. If Disk-based effects have always been too non-format-legal to actually score enough points, that still would have been topical to discuss as other videos sometimes make references to notable absences to explain their absence.

It has helped me end games too. In a BW zombie deck with Plague Belcher. My opponent and i were at a standoff with tokens, so i just blew up the board then.

So something like Extinction Event feels better because you can plan for certain lopsided board wipes (favouring your side). Shouldnt wraths not be limited to the completeness when they are so powerful (exile clause being super relevant)

Perhaps you should consider a list of the best non-wrath sweepers. Its clear that white is best at sweeping, but aside from 'Damnation' I wonder if red or black has better sweepers.

why final judgment instead of descend upon the sinful. it's the same thing but u get a Delirium trigger (Put a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying onto the battlefield if there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard.)

They destroy both hexproof and protection. Hexproof only prevents targeting, protection prevents damage and targeting from whatever it is protection from. Wraths don't target or do damage

Honestly.... the definition of "Wrath" is too tight. Personally I would have liked to see at least Terminus get mentioned. Terminus is the best wrath at least in Legacy due to brainstorm. A lot of these Wrath Effects like cleansing nova is only played because thats the only one thats legal so comparing formats is kinda comparing apples to oranges. Its better to use Vintage/Legacy as a metric where all these Wraths are playable. Even modern is a better measure than using various standard formats. Regardless I want to give some mentions to some cards I feel wouldn't exactly fit the definition of Wrath of God but definitely performs the exact same function and would take the exact same slot as a Wrath of God. Terminus Oblivion Stone All in Dust Ugin the Spirit Dragon (the most not a wrath, wrath card but when it comes down, youre definitely getting wrath'd and probably losing forever)
