you have to fail to succeed. In my case I failed 2 clutch jobs on a v6 Acura/Honda. My 3rd time was the charm. The first time was on my own car. I got the Luk kit+flywheel. Car wouldn’t go into gear. The pressure plate and clutch disc weren’t aligned correctly. They have to be spot on before you tighten pressure plate. I didn’t make sure. So you make sure. Put the clutch alignment tool in. Then take your index finger and check the clearance all around the alignment tool. Make sure there’s even space all around the alignment tool. Then take a paint pen or even a black sharpie. Mark the pressure plate bolts 1-6. Tight them a quarter at a time aka 90° in the correct order. Do 3 stages of torque. The torque for the pressure plate is 19ft-Lbs. so I did 6ft-lbs on my 1-6 labeled bolts. Then I went 12ft-lbs 1-6bolts then finally 19ft-lbs on my 1-6bolts. You don’t need a special tool if this is a brand new pressure plate and clutch kit. If your car isn’t going into gear most likely it is the alignment issue. The 2nd time I did a v6 H/A clutch was on my family members car. It was nonresetting EBAY clutch. So you can’t reset it if it’s misaligned the first time. Once EBay pressure plate is installed and tightened down the springs will be set in place. If you take the pressure plate off again it will destroy the spring mechanism then the cutch won’t engage. PS the LUK clutch kit is a reset spring clutch that’s why the springs are exposed. I wasn’t careful enough with the alignment that’s why I took off eBay PP to realign it. Anyways. Not knowing the springs were F**ked I put the eBay PP on aligned correctly this time. went into any gear but it won’t move or stall out when you let the clutch out. That’s because the springs were F**ked after first install. Then my 3rds the charm. I was using LUK clutch which is preset. I made sure pressure plate and clutch were aligned the first time. Did 3 stage torque sequence. Put it all together. It went into gear and then drove. If you messed up alignment with a LUK PP and tightened it down then do not take it off right away. You’ll need a special tool to rest the springs. I didn’t use the special tool to reset the PP springs. I used the old release/throw out bearing and a 3ton jaw puller. The key is to put pressure one the inter “fingers” of the PP which then released the PP from the cutch disc. Therefore the pressure will be gone. If you don’t release PP springs it will destroy clutch disc. There’s videos on how to reset PP springs. Good LUK😉😉

Awesome video series. Planning on getting a tls from an auction...but it says mech damage? Even though it runs and drives so let’s see how it turns out!

All the best with that purchase. Auction cars can have their troubles, but sometimes you get lucky

Very important personal statement at the end of this video! How do you handle the enormous frustration of a final test that proves the repair failed? Probably every DIY mechanic has had such frustrations. But few have worked so hard on such a difficult and long repair only to it end without even knowing what went wrong. To be able to look at the big picture and still realize it all had been a good project and worthwhile is the mark of a very mature and healthy attitude. There was much to learn from and be motivated by your final observations. I'm sure that every viewer that watched this series was rooting for your ultimate success! And with an attitude like that, I'm sure that it ultimately happened!! Thank you for your important lessons!

Wow thanks for the kind words! That's the attitude I always try to have. Something will always go wrong so when it does I try to look for the positive in the situation! On another note, the car is now fixed

Did you ever figure out the problem? I'm about to start the clutch in my 2006 TL and I'm using your videos as a reference
@MtGarage5 жыл бұрын
Ended up being the throw out bearing. Faulty parts from the manufacturer. Make sure it spins freely before installing. We’ll be making an update video soon once everything is back together and working properly.

I have that same exact sound but it goes away when I press the clutch. Only lasts a few seconds after a cold start. Clutch was just replaced too. Are you certain it was the faulty throw out bearing?
@MtGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm certain it was the cause, after replacing it i haven't had that sound once

Im in the same boat with using as a referance i assume it was the backward clutch disk?
@MtGarage5 жыл бұрын
It was actually a faulty bearing that was sent with my new clutch kit. It was semi seized, so I've got a new one that's being installed now. Clutch disc was not backwards so I'm hoping the bearing fixes it 🤞
