I don't like hating on these guys, but this was an already shitty theme, and Jennifer already had an obscene advantage by choosing 2, but she freaking TAXES everyone else? They are already spending too much for their spells.

What's MTGGoldfishes game philosophy with this series? Feels like the personalities on the field aren't all on the same page when it comes to making an entertaining game for viewers to watch. I used to look forward to these videos every week and now I can't even finish watching them anymore. Edit: I'd encourage the team to focus more on producing a fun interactive environment that people would be interested in watching. There's an unspoken rule of gamesmanship at my playgroup where we realize winning isn't the real motivator to playing magic, winning is just a perk. The real fun is sitting down with 3 other people for a game of commander and enjoying our time. If someone at my table isn't having fun because the cards aren't on their side that night and we don't have time for another game I've never had a problem announcing how I would of won and then passing the turn to let the other players enjoy their deck. Even if their future play ends up winning the game I could care less because the wins not really important; it's the camaraderie of playing together that I value.
@Dudldom7 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. If you play commander because you want to win, you miss the whole point. It feels great losing when awesome stuff happens in the game. It feels aweful winning when nobody stood a chance. And picking on the one person that has absolutely no board is so unbelievably lame. You know how it is being that person? You might as well not play. Is that really what you want to accomplish?

"I feel bad he hasn't done anything." Followed by an execution. It felt disingenuous when Jen would argue she was doing it for the card draw, or that she didn't want to but what choice did she have. Tomer got shafted this game, and he was last pick with his CMC. Almost like the other players knew higher cmc would be unplayable.

I believe a 1 cmc Rhys deck would have been playable. Most of the good elves are 1cmc and Glimpse does also cost 1.

There are LOTS of token generators at 1 (single token generators like Legion's Landing, Oviya Pashiri or Wurmcalling, but also multiple tokens ones like: Alliance of Arms, Gelatinous Genesis, Launch the Fleet, Sylvan Offering and the great Secure the Wastes). There are also lot of other overall strong cards: Sol Ring, Sword to Plowshare, Path, Green Sun's Zenith, Serra ascendant, Enlightened/ Wordly Tutor and so on... EDIT: Oh! I was forgetting the absolutely broken Skullclamp, especially in a token deck. See? I have already laid the basis to a very good elfball/token deck without much thought.

30 minutes, that’s including the intro and everything before we have our first knock out. I love this series. Much like most of the people in the comment section, I’ve been here since the first season. Recently, I’ve no longer looked forward to seeing these videos. Most of the people here have already stated what I would have about the content. Bad choices, bad showmanship, bad understanding of how this should play out. Tomer, you’re a good sport. Don’t lose your way.

I'm seeing a lot of the same posts so I'll try to address the comments: Jennifer was justified in killing me. She is a 2 CMC deck lacking card advantage. If my deck stabilizes, board wipes or just plays enough big things, her deck won't keep up. She knew that and played correctly. It's not her fault I got mana screwed. As for my deck, lots of people think it didn't have a chance, but honestly I think if we played more games my deck was the favorite to win. Yes it's slow but my deck has 22 cards that can be tossed in the graveyard for a turn 4 Tasigur and 41 lands + 4 landcyclers + other cyclers to make sure I'm hitting land drops all the way to turn 6. I'm also running many board wipes to reset the board and then get ahead with my bigger cards. I wrote a full description here: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/813442#paper I shouldn't have been greedy and cycled a land. I was setting up an early Tasigur. Unfortunately I then drew 0 lands and got my graveyard exiled twice. It was really bad draws. It happens.

Tomer Abramovici I think the problem with Jen in general isn't that she played correctly or not, it's that she doesn't play for the fun. I'm sure it was the right move, but sometimes you shouldn't take it.
@Volvary7 жыл бұрын
It's not about her being right or not, Tomer. Week after week, she is always bringing decks that are spikey. For every theme, she always brings the strongest, most unfair deck. Rhonas? Infect. CMC? 2-drops hate bear, first time she is in the series? Reanimator w/ Praetors. I don't often say that but I seriously can't watch those weeks. A lot of people have been complaining about how unfun her decks are and I think it's time you guys realize people are not just picking on her.
@Bryan-T7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the response Tomer. I agree, she played her deck as she should have. I hope you'll give that deck another run, whether on CC or just in a pub game. I'd like to see it in action. @Volvary - I agree, she is a spike and when it comes to ffa commander that's frowned upon by most. I'm sure the other guys know this and it's probably why she's often killed first.

I am very glad to see Richard back he has been my favorite commander player in this series. I feel as though he always has a deck that is not only on theme but just fun. He wins with the stupidest decks and i feel like it works because of his good politics and the fact that you think "Okay but like that deck cant win right?" And then he wins with mono green spell slinger. I know that Saffron olive also known as seth is busy and cant make it but i think those were the games i enjoyed the most, Tomer, Tom, Seth, Richard. You had an aggro player, the control, the combo, and i mean just Richard how do you explain that. I appreciate you bringing in new people and helping to make it more diverse and love watching your videos. @MrShinyObject7 жыл бұрын
Yikes. I think everything in this video made sense, but it still hurt to watch. 1. Jen needed to be aggressive, because if she can't keep up, she's left with the weakest cards out of the group. 2. The precinct captain specifically encouraged her to attack. 3. Ludevic also encouraged attacking. 4. If Tomer just went land -> massacre worm, Jen would basically instantly lose the game, and as a mono-white deck her only answer is to kill him. 5. No one could attack Tom because then they wouldn't draw a card, no one would attack Richard because no mercy, and no one could attack into Jen. 6. Tomer knew FULL WELL what he was getting in to. This was his choice, and he accepted his fate. So basically, attacking Tomer was not only the only choice, it was actively a good decision. It draws you cards, gets you tokens, doesn't kill your stuff, and prevents the player with the most powerful cards from stabilizing. It was all correct, it was just very sad.
@yieldmotherculture7 жыл бұрын
My only problem with this game was Jenn giving away the game. She should have realized that a non-lethal attack on Richard would end the game for her. Also, she should have taken out No Mercy 100% with that Quarantine Field. The Bloodline Keeper was under a Phyrexian Revoker, and Richard had no attacks. She just gave it all away!
@davemeyer43927 жыл бұрын
I personally feel that though there's a lot of hate going around, I respect Jen's deck choice. I know I've done this sort of thing before. That said, maybe you guys could... I don't know, run a practice game or two so that if someone's deck is super unfun, they can tone it down a bit? Idk, just my 2 cents. I love a good aggro deck, but it's no fun to see really cool ideas hated out by spikey decks. Maybe limit those types of builds to games where it's specified that you're being super competitive. Otherwise, it was good fun, I just wish I coulda seen what Tomer was up to.

I don't agree with the x spells if you're going to do CMC tribal. Jen got so much mileage from return to the ranks and quarantine field it was effectively like playing 8 and 10 mana spells and ensures you don't fall off late game which should be the downside of a 2 cmc deck.

do I abandon this before it starts? I'm not convinced the stipulation will lead to entertaining decks to watch
@CodenameJD7 жыл бұрын
I think this was a fine concept in theory - certainly interesting as a deck building restriction, but far less interesting as a play restriction, mostly for what happened to Tomer but also for taking out pretty much all surprise. But someone getting taken out without getting a chance to play with well over half the game left? That's not fun. I'm not sure how much it comes down to play decisions, such as that land Tomer cycled early on, or how much he was attacked, but the fact is it really isn't enjoyable to watch, and naturally wouldn't be fun for him to play. Honestly, while I think some of your theme week ideas are cute and quirky, I think they can at times detract from the best part about commander, building a deck with combos and synergies that couldn't happen in another format. They can work incredibly, like Richard's mono green instants deck. But if a player ever feels while deck building that they can really only pull together a pile of good cards, it might be worth scrapping that theme all together. One way this could work is if one week each player were secretly given a unique deck building restriction, without the other players knowing what the restriction is.
@Rococorico7 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone played incorrectly here, but it doesn't mean it's any easier to watch. This episode just wasn't so entertaining. One person being hated out early, the vast imbalance and even the locks played (specially No Mercy) are just aggravating factors of an overall dull game: not much talking or joking, no funny edits, no excitement, no surprises. Not anyone's fault in particular, but that doesn't make it any better.
@Seuration7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Jennifer could have won if she had gone g/w and chose Gaddock Teeg as her commander. Would have opened up green for Voice of Resurgence, Aquastrand Spider to give her bolstered creatures reach, Naturalize for that pesky No Mercy (That if she had Gaddock out couldn't have been cast anyway), , Dromoka's Command for uitilty, Cream of the Crop for ultimate deck thinning, Evolutionary Leap to pull creatures out of her deck, combine that with Cryptolith Rite and it could be tap a token for green, sac it to evolutionary leap, get good creature to cast to anafenza, bolster 1. :P Anyway, Just loved this episode. Keep up the good work.

I've watched every episode of commander clash and always look forward to them. They are amusing fun, and a great way to spend an hour or more However I have been enjoying these more recent episodes far less then any of the older ones. I don"t want to sound like every other person who wrote in the comments about being annoyed about Jen and her decks, but unfortunately thats exactly what I'm going to do. Its not having decks geared more toward winning , its having decks that do it in a way the diminishes from the whole idea of fun casual commander with random restriction built in for amusement. Jen is never wrong per say, she builds good decks, stays on theme and can be amusing; however overall she just seems to take more away than she brings. Its also that it happens consistently. It is starting to feel like this happens every week even if it doesn't. That it does occur regularly for this perception to had though should say something. As should the fact that over half the videos you post have Tomer posting a comment to explain whatever happened away. I hope you guys read this, other viewers are welcome to post in response I would be interested to hear other perspectives. Note: this is my opinion, and I do not expect everyone to agree with me, however there are enough other people also expressing the same feelings that I dont believe its a "just me" sort of thing. Again: this is merely my view on the matter, not fact or the end all be all answer.

I feel like 3CMC would probably be the most competitive if this became an actual format, a lot of good equipment is at 3, and it high enough that you can have lords and self pump abilities, but low enough you can play quickly, and reasonably expect to take more than 1-2 actions per turn. Additionally, it’s common enough that you can get good tribal support from larger tribes, for instance, there are something like 35 vampire in mardu colors at 3CMC, with Martha’s being a solid commander for politics.
@ZielonyJablo7 жыл бұрын

Hey Tomer, I know I'm late to the party so you probably won't read this, but Ramos, Dragon Engine could have been a better choice of commander for 6 drop tribal. You would then be able to use Krosan Verge as extra ramp, as well as Sunbird's Invocation to double down on your 6 drops, some planewalkers like Elspeth, cards like Farm//Market, Start//Finish and Hour of Revelations that can be cast for cheaper. Also your land base could really have used Ancient Tomb and Temple of the False God for the extra ramp. With a bit more basics, Terrain Generator would've been great too.

I feel bad for Tomer... even though it was probably the right play to take him out of the game before he stabilized and started resolving haymakers every turn, it just sounded like he wasn't having any fun at all. I've played against alara lock decks and had more fun. Anyway, if I was playing CMC tribal with his choices (2,3,and 4 taken), I'd probably go for a red burn-like strategy or G/W value/plus one plus one counters/mana sinks at 1CMC or try and force bad 5CMC combos like conspiracy/turntimber ranger and a bunch of bad tutors. Also, cheeky and clever of Tom to use partner commanders to get him some more colour choices in his cmc
@SmartAlec17 жыл бұрын
Who would make what is already the cheapest deck in terms of CMC a deck that makes everyone else's deck more expensive? Thalia's powerful, but it's fair because it's everyone's non creature spell. This just felt like it used the rules to a sleazy advantage. I knew that this week would be garbage after hearing the theme, but Thalia is just pouring salt in the wound. All you're missing is Strip MIne and Tectonic Edge. And of course poor Tomer didn't have enough lands for a SIX MANA TRIBAL deck, why dude? 41 is usually a lot but this is basically a ramp deck that can't ramp, you'll need to make half your deck lands at least, maybe even sixty. Lands are probably never going to be useless draws in this deck since you can only play one spell a turn after the sixth one, and then you'll play two a turn by the twelth. Oh gahd this was a garbage fire of an episode. Cute idea, but it sounded bad right from the git go.

Kettwiesel25 the land cycling t3 didn’t actually effect the game. While he would have had one more land on the field, he would have been down one draw meaning that he still wouldn’t have had the mana needed to cast anything before he died.
@Kettwiesel257 жыл бұрын
Hard to say that this easily darren, I mean I don't know if and when they would have chosen to Bojuka Bog him if he didn't cycle, but as it stands, he could have cast Tasigur one turn earlier by fetching eot t5. That being said, he could have done that anyway and didn't, so another punt there.
@DoctorCataclysm7 жыл бұрын
They obviously had the bogs waiting for him early on. Dropping two bogs on him when he was having mana problems was really shitty. At least he could've delved out his commander and tried to get the ball rolling. Sometimes doing the "right play" isn't the fun play.
@mmlgamer7 жыл бұрын
I would argue that Oloro is a better choice given this particular theme. Tasigur alone isn't going to hold off an army of 2-3 cmc creatures, but the lifegain could help tide you over until you get to turn 6. Also, how many MORPH CARDS are you running, Tomer? Also, I didn't see Ancient Tomb or Temple of the False God in this deck. Temple of the False God would be hands down your best land, since any other fifth land would be almost useless.
@tomerabramovici327 жыл бұрын
Oloro might have been better yeah. Passive lifegain is great, and White gives me more sweepers, though I intentionally didn't want to go overboard with board wipes; I think we recorded this a couple days after the Child of Alara video went up and didn't want to make another deck that wiped the board over and over. I do think Tasigur would've done a fine job holding off attackers if he came down turn 4 like I intended. At that stage in the game I doubt anyone would've wanted to lose a creature to deal some nonlethal damage. Also Green gave me access to powerful ramp like Shefet Monitor, Blighted Woodland, Mana Reflection etc. so I could potentially cast 6-drops before turn 6 and then later cast two 6-drops per turn. I agree with all the other suggestions. I didn't like the Morph cards available and assumed I'd do fine surviving until turn 6, but in hindsight I should at least run Sagu Mauler (flips up turn 5 and hard to remove). Ancient Tomb + Temple would've been great.

Sooo...Um... While a lot of people seem to be a little upset about how things went, I really enjoyed this match. While I don't like Tomer getting knocked out early, I completely understand it and honestly think it was the right choice to make. "Jen's deck was too spikey", look guys, aggro is aggro. Do I think it might have been better served in another clash where it could have been fought more easily? Maybe, sure. Now I'm just gonna list off a couple other thoughts in bullet points: *I really enjoyed Tom's POV. I love you to death Tomer, really do, but swapping it off every so often really allows us to get a feel for other play styles. Doesn't have to be every match, but every so often would be greatly appreciated. *The audio. I saw that Tomer commented on it being recorded separately compared to through his Skype. SOOO much better! Really appreciate the extra effort. *Richard won another jank tribal... heh, bless Look, in the end, I come here to watch some folks I think are fun play a game I love. As much as it sucks to see a player defeated before he even gets to play a card, Jennifer did the right thing by killing him.She even gave him an extra turn before ending him. How can you argue otherwise? It's not fair to tell the 2cmc deck to wait because it can't really ever come back from Tomer playing Massacre wurm or any boardwipe(altough J. did get the best 2 cards in her deck to eventually do it, it was probably still not enough).If you know mtg you should know that this is how the game had to unfold based on the week's theme.blame the week's theme.Blame Tomer(i love you, huge fan) for not choosing cmc 5 or for cycling the land.Blame RNG, blame MTGO for not allowing a custom number of mulligans.But don't blame players for doing the obviously right thing.

Sophaurus She didn't have to keep swinging all in at him. The others didn't have to Bog him twice. It's more than just Jen's actions in this game. She always seems to bring a competitive commander/deck. She's simply a spike player that doesn't know how to play for fun.

I think the video was good and the decks where fun, everyone was justified in killing tomer, and tomer's defeat was justified the early cycle into a no land was avoidable but then being set turns back by no land drops and an exiled graveyard just are right plays. Why leave a possible threat on the board? It's like leaving a bomb ticking when you can just stop it. Honestly I like the plays, I liked the video. People shouldn't complain about tomers early defeat these things happen when you play silly decks. They weren't expecting to win and I certainly wouldn't expect to do well. It's just the luck of the draw baby. Good job tomer, good job jen, good job tom, and good job richard.

58:38 if Jen was going to slam down winter orb, why did she tap so many lands? She could have added a lot of mana by activating Nykthos's second ability, Which would let her start her turn with more untapped lands.

When you play commander it's extremely important to have all players sit down with similar restrictions, game attitude, and to some extent skill level. You can't use a thousand dollar deck at a kitchen table game, or grab a Spike deck at a table full of Timmy, and expect everyone to have a good time. Jen plays Spike, and there is nothing wrong with that. But, the rest of the table does not share that attitude. Asking her to change is not fair. She likes playing Spike, otherwise she wouldn't always build it. If she changes her playstyle for the sake of the KZbin audience, she's not going to enjoy the game. It'll definitely show no matter how hard she'd try to hide it. I'm assuming the 4 of you are friends and want to play together, but you can't currently do that and have the content be entertaining to watch. Get a new person in to replace Jen, she's just not a good fit for the group/show. And seriously, who the **** cares what gender or sexual orientation that new person would be?

i think people in the comments need to understand edh as a format has honestly 2 goals for almost all players, 1. have fun 2. win the type of player you are depends on which order you put these in, yes some of these players do play much more to win than for the "fun" of the table but thats just edh as a format... props to tomer though for not complaining about it, thats why he's my easy favorite on the show.

I actually think Tom has done a good job calming down a bit, Tomer getting killed off early was not poor play, just a challenge that was a bit too dependant on his early draws. People complaining that Jen is a spike, I too have had that complaint, but if she plays too poorly people want her off for not being good enough, if she plays too hard she is called a spike. She can't really win which is a bit unfair. I think everyone did a really good job making a fun challenge, that only in hindsight might be a bit optimistic.

This game should show you why i've been so hard about Toms attitude. Tomer gets attacked and does nothing all game and bows out of the game respectfully. When Tom gets attacked at ANY point or when he died this game he was a poor sport. IDK why it has to be brought up every week. You guys clearly read comments but nothing is being done to fix it so he just doesn't care.
@HanannieOSRS7 жыл бұрын
TheEclip6 Tom has a poor attitude and bad sportsmanship all around since he came on board... have seen the same opinion voiced on most videos but still they do nothing, it is just sad he hasn't changed or been shown the door
@anthonyagudelo94217 жыл бұрын
Damn sucks that Tomer died would have loved to see his deck go off. I don't think this was anyone's fault though just a shitty draw by Tomer, Jennifer needed to attack someone. I do think tomer should have gone 5 colors to use some of the powerful and mana saving spells like terminus in white and red. Tomer could have also used some lands to give him early game card filtering like desolated lighthouse.

I'm honestly happy with all the players and the game. Sometimes you get weird or unbalanced draws in magic and games end up this way. I'd rather have that happen over having the games staged or unfairly handicapped for entertainment value, that's just not magic.

Each player rolls 1 D4 The D4 decides your first CMC meaning that each player gets a fairly low mana cost with the highest being 4 Then the player with the highest mana cost chooses their second CMC from the choices of 5-15 and so on and so forth This way each player has a chance for a early game and a late game In this case Tomer could have run 1 and 6 CMC which would have definitely improved this game.

Unfortunate to get stuck with CMC 6, going with CMC 5 might've been a bit easier, but you shoulda WAY upped the land count, or in my opinion, just gone with CMC 1. This is exactly what I expected of a Clash when there's no Seth's boardwipes and Richard doesn't tutor for his single boardwipe. Tomer, if you want to durdle, you need to pick up the control role. The age of passing with empty board and hoping is over.

Love your content but lately it feels like watching a 1st time player at LGS getting crushed by locals who have no time for introductions. It seems like a weird space between competitive and casual play. Oppressive/meta'ed decks seem a little OP when paired with the restrictions and/or non-meta'ed decks and seem to be igniting unusual reactions/interactions between players.
@josephwilson69087 жыл бұрын
After reading further comments I thought I should extend on the fact that you guys are ALL awesome and ALL entertaining in different ways. I appreciate the effort and hours that go into the show. My feeling is not about people, just a feeling around balance.
@Zarundar7 жыл бұрын
I won't complain about how people approached the deckbuilding and the way the game played out. People shouldn't handicap themselves JUST because it's a "casual format". Obviously the budget restrictions, deck building rules each week, etc. already accomplish that deckbuilding wise. What I didn't enjoy about this video was the nature of the restriction being imposed. In general, I would say that doing them once every while is fine, but I also want to see good decks being built and played.

Not sure if these comments are ever even read. However this was just the worst. Tomer should have never even came to the table without some sort of rule that allowed him to play the game. Even if he did not miss any land drops he was never in this game. There was zero threat assessment just kill Tomer before he can ever play. Not even worth watching fully.

Morfowt, remove the broom stick from your as you will feel more flexible. Holy shit, you probably play as the classic D&D legal/good paladin with 0 imagination. I can just play a 1CMC deck and fill the deck with 1X cards to have some fun.
@x3mskbord7 жыл бұрын
sure you can do that. your deck would be a 1 cmc deck, not an X cmc deck. 1 is a valid cmc, X is not. also in case you actually cared, I play a dragonborn of bahamut templated fire hobgoblin with 7 levels in factotum, 2 levels in fighter, 2 levels in shadowdancer, and 1 level in archivist. I play as the team's rogue because literally everyone else has a character that's really only good at fighting
@xavisimon30957 жыл бұрын
Ouch a draconian, seems pretty broken ^_^ Well I know X for the estimation of CMC its equal to 0. Probably the correct way to formulate my first post should be; theme based deck with all mama cost containing X just for fun. I suppose there is not a CMC official league with specifics rules, so if you are playing with your fiends and they accept the idea, I don’t see the reason to don’t do it. In fact seems challenging and restrictive: 1 to find the commander 2 Many go the broken cards as you mentioned chord, don’t have good synergies with X cost, you cant cheat X costs in to play because it will play as 0. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This leads me to another point: I have never agree with wizards about how they manage CMC rules. X should be equal to 0 unplayed and cheated into play, but equal to the mama played once played. Firebalal R+10 should be CMC 11 much more logic. And for the Split cards each part should be counted separately, I have never got to understand how they made a rune that allowed to play a 2CMC card and the other half for free, makes so little sense when you cant cheat a kicker card playing the kicker for free. And now we are in the other extreme, and al the split cards are the addition of bot CMC, so right now I exploit those cards to build decks around with Combustible Gearhulk, or to avoid chalice on the void on modern wile my real manna curve is rather low. They should simplify that stuff, its messy incoherent, and exploitable

Man this was an interesting idea but very much less so to watch. I understand Tomer had little choice to play anything below CMC 5 and I'm sure 6 had stronger better cards than 5 but just watching 3 people beat up on him made for very dull watching early game. I mean he might as well just conceded turn 1 and watch the game play out. That's basically what he did but had the added bonus of getting the shit kicked out of him by 3 other players

Jim Harbor actually that's not true. Because now you have the bargaining chip over the person with the low life. You can now Nate games with that person. Get them to a point where they're helping you because well let's face it if they don't they die. That's strategy strategy is not always just how to kill someone the fastest in this game it's how do I win with the resources I have available and in Commander other players are new resource. That is why people that don't know how to do politics annoy me. Because politics can be a huge resource in this game. Having someone and make them do what you need to do to help you win is way more beneficial then taking them out of the game and then having to rely on your cards to beat the other two players.
@lucky13sj7 жыл бұрын
Jim Harbor yeah I think you need to look into your playstyle a little more and maybe understand that you too focused on the end goal and not the Journey to the End goal.

This week, on "Jen murders her friends haphazardly and then immediately gets punished by the one she left alive," one of her opponents casts a single spell before being eliminated (which took half an hour), and then not even fifteen minutes later, she kills another, and thereafter takes another thirty minutes to die herself.
