I feel like the point of this sideboard is to be a transformational sideboard Game 1 you are a big creature deck and win Game 2 they bring in all the creature removal and wraths, but since you changed ur deck completely all of their removal become dead cards and you just win

Absolutely love the transformational sideboard idea. Needs more support from the main deck to get to the full burn setup, which is a lot harder to pull off in Jund as well. Big Red seems more reasonable as a sideboard switch or X direct damage spells

My insight on Boltwave: What most likely happened is that the deck's creator was not able to kill their opponent because their opponent stabilized at 1-2 life. Maybe that happened a couple times, and because of that they put a bunch of 3 damage spells in their sideboard in case it happens to them again. It's a new players thinking of knowing what the problem is but not knowing how to solve it. "My opponent keeps ending the game at 3-5 life, therefore, Boltwave and Slagstorm are perfect!" Meanwhile the correct answer would be to just build a more comprehensive and cleaner decklist in the first place. Thats what I think!
@erysecret4 сағат бұрын
To add onto this: the most difficult part of deck building in any card game imo is knowing what your deck can do, what its purpose is, and what its best and worst matchups are. If this deck's creator continues to die to control decks, it's a lot easier to accept that they can get there if they just had 1-2 more damage spells in hand rather than realizing, okay, this matchup is bad for my deck, let me either make adjustments for that to be better (at the cost of either tempo or resilience) or ignore that and tune my deck to fight other threats, with that being my Achilles heel. That's a tough concept to conceptualize if you're a new player or even someone that doesn't play card games a lot!
@bensteinhauser784Сағат бұрын
My favorite hydra in standard is by far The Goose Mother. It's so goofy but it's basically unplayable. Maybe if it made clues and could eat one on ETB? As for making a good(ish) hydra deck in standard, the only way I can think of is a Jund Beans control/ramp deck that uses hasty hydras as a finisher.

This feels like an intentional, 15-in and 15-out deck moving from G1 to G2, but use your judgment if G3. Think of a dial that says, on one end, STOMPY, and the other end, BURN. Full Stompy G1 > Opponent Sideboards for Hydras; Full Burn G2 > Opponent is confused; Your Choice G3 (if necessary). And plenty of "bridge" cards between the two archetypes. Love it.

I have a landfall self-mill deck that’s built around Mossborn Hydra. If you see this comment I suggest giving it a shot. Deck list: 4 Llanowar Elves 3 Seed of Hope 3 Aftermath Analyst 3 Bristly Bill, Spine Sower 4 Say Its Name 3 Loot, Exuberant Explorer 4 Mossborn Hydra 3 Nissa Resurgent Animist 2 Lumra, Bellow of the Woods 3 Altanak, the Thrice- Called 1 Nissa, Ascendent Animist 1 Walk-In Closet//Forgotten Cellar 4 Arid Archway 4 Escape Tunnel 4 Fabled Passage 14 Forest I’ve gotten the Mossborn Hydra to 16k+ with this build and it holds up against a decent amount of the standard meta.

There's multiple cards in here that make treasures (including Doubling Season) or care about treasures (e.g., sacrificing them or using the mana to pump). I think that might be a part of the deck's theory, if not a very effective one?

Railway Brawler saw considerable play after OTJ's release. Personally I consider Mossborn Hydra as a turn 4 creature. I always wanna play it with a land drop, preferably a fetch land. This grows it into a 4/4, that the opponent needs to answer or it gets ugly quickly. It works best with additional ramp of course, but also in combination with early creatures that aim to add counters quickly. Letting the Mossborn Hydra enter with an additional counter and then double landfalling it from a fetch land grows it into an 8/8 trampler already on turn 4 (turn 3 with a turn 1 llanowar elf). Ideally your opponent feels pressured enough to spend their removal on your earlier creatures, so that it can live and grow to become a one-hit ko machine.

the absolute greed seth had with plotting all those brawlers when he really needed to get the hydra down sooner. goldvein hydra is a hyper aggro card that needs to get down soon so it can die and feed your other hydras. especially when you are feeding into other goldveins to get even more treasure if that one dies

This meta is just disgusting. So much removal and interaction. That last deck is just pure annoyance. Then again I'm more of a play my plan, make you stop it, run over you type of player. But still, I feel like I've never really seen this amount of interaction and removal before. Started playing back in 2012 or so, even the most popular W/U and Esper control didn't have this level of annoyances and I played that one for a good while. Current day Magic is filthy. Loved the old bloodrush decks in '13 the blue and black devotion decks of '14-15. The boros Glory decks with always watching in '16-17. Played some other stuff after that up until '20 and got busy with life and had to take a step back from fun. Now doesn't look like a fun time to get back in, not my style of play I guess. I also do prefer sealed/draft to constructed partially for this reason.

Kinda feels like a misunderstood deck by seth All cards were interacting with each other Loot gives 2 landdrops for mosborn and gets support for hydras Goldvein becomes treasures for magda or hydras The little target crimes are support, not mainly for magda The deck wants to be agressive, not waiting for 5 turns or more for an instant kill Maybe heros downfall for the fell to have instant removal, maybe its just to get rid of deathtoucher and instant didnt matter The sideboard was planned to switch for fast crime burn, to get around control - bombs out and oppo sideboarded all wraths and removal in I can see the deck winning 6 times in a row, if played completly diff than seth did
