Since the counterspell was already om the stack, misdirection could target it. Normally counterspells can't select themselves because when they select a target they aren't on the stack yet and aren't a viable target, but you can redirect a counterspell onto itself.
@poiri2 жыл бұрын
@@hugokapon4166 just checked the rulings to make sure and that is incorrect, spells cannot target themself as a rule. This is also spelt out in the gatherer rulings for redirect.

I too had a Gavi deck and I too took it apart, for reasons similar to the ones you've voiced in your videos, Andrew. I've been playing Satsuki as a less powerful enchantress deck. Sythis is a lot of fun but I tend to (rightly, usually) get targeted; Satsuki is weird and durdley and lets you take lots of game actions but it's a lot less powerful. Satsuki reminds me of Gavi in that it feels good to do lots of cool little things, but I think that Satsuki is more fun to play. Though the deck basically builds itself, because of all the crazy saga abilities, every game is different.

No, Xantcha gets exiled, because she entered the battlefield already under Maxime's control. If it enters under a player's control and the opponent steals it, then it goes back to the previous controller. If it was cast by that opponent or entered the battlefield already under their control, then it gets exiled.

Redirecting Mental Misstep to target itself is a misplay. By rule 114.5: A spell or ability on the stack is an illegal target for itself. As such a counterspell can never be made it's own target. Redirecting requires the new target to be a legal one for the spell upon the resolution of the redirect, which the counterspell is not.
@ChaosLordx82 жыл бұрын

On Marie's Second to last turn she could have played Xantcha, which may have won her the game. Between Crypt Ghast, Urborg, and Cabal Coffers my count puts her at 29 mana (and 3 more come her next turn), meaning given no other plays she could have drained Andrew out before he could kill her, and she would draw numerous cards in the process

I usually construct my decks with a specific idea, theme or goal in mind and then do everything i can to make it work as well as possible. For this one it was to play a trickster style of control deck with spell-stealing sounterspells and ways of transforming my opponents threats into funny creatures like pigs, cows, etc. While playing one of my favourite strategies, Polymorph. Transforming Kwain into Jin-Gitaxias. Built my deck to do that as reliably as possible while sticking to the theme. I only get to play Magic 3-4 hours per week, so I want to make sure my decks do what they were built to as often as possible and have fun doing it.

Huh... Andrew, you can't make a counterspell target itself, so that Misdirection play doesn't work. Misdirection could be used to change the counterspell target to Misdirection itself, but since Mental Misstep can only target 1 value spells, you can't use it in this situation. You could've used it to redirect Recurring Insight to someone with a smaller hand, though.

@@MTGMuddstah Is this your first time using a target-changing spell to fizzle a counterspell? The trick is that you have to change the counterspell's target to the spell that you're casting. It resolves and then the counterspell fizzles because its new target is gone.

Is your deck a control deck or did you draw weird?
@philllllllll2 жыл бұрын
@@darksteelmenace595 both. KZbin won't let me post a link to my deck list in the comments but the main goal of the deck is to polymorph Kwain into Jin-Gitaxias. (the art for polymorph is a bunny growing claws as it transforms into something else. And the shape of those claws matches Jin-Gitaxias! Thematic win!) Overall the strategy is to play a Rule of Law type of effect to limit my opponents despite making them draw so many cards so I can keep control over the game and eventually win through Approach. The deck is designed to be a bit of a trickster archetype with all the Counterspells that allow me to steal the spells as well as any sort of polymorph effect. Pongify, Swan Song, Curse of the Swine, Transmogrifying Wand, etc. Unfortunately it drew weird the entire game and the few plays I did to try and fix that were stopped.
