You should try out a card named Wake the Dead. Arachnogenesis-ish effect that's going to get you all the enter and dying triggers both. I guarantee they won't see it coming.

I guess the game checks for cmdr damage after your life went to 1?

That's what I was thinking.

i'm guessing he died to state based actions. He took lethal damage, and stunning reversal changed his life to 1, but he still had 24 commander damage and died instantly.

^ Exactly ^ It’s like when you regenerate a creature that died with -1/-1 counters. The game still sees the counters and kills it straight away anyway.
