There was a recent time when boats this big had to have 800hp+ inboard V8s to run 100mph. Now they run 100 with outboards of half the HP and MTI sells as many as they can build.

We would run in a pack of 10-12 boats. Cigarettes, Apaches, and Fountains in the 80’s & 90’s. No cats. Every time we went out 3 or 4 boats came back on one motor and with a variety of other problems. Carbon Fiber and outboards have really made these new boats lightweight, insanely fast, AND DEPENDABLE! Back then cats were only ok in flat seas, but I’ve seen guys on their 390x’s in 4-6ft seas and it’s just incredible.

Thank you very much for the review. I’m considering buying one of the new boats. The efficiency with the speed is fantastic. The lower maintenance costs are amazing. I wish there was a Merc 500R, that would put me right where I want to be but for a “charter” boat the average person is going to feel like they’re hauling butt either way. Maybe someday I can get my hands on a big 52 foot race boat, for personal use, for now this is about as good as it gets in my situation. Ti Ringrazio

That is one sweet boat. 132 m.p.h. is moving. 2 Mercury 450 h.p. engines at about $60,000.00 per plus the cost of the boat. A little pricey for my wallet but an amazing boat.

Not only Performance. but maintenance upkeep and fuel consumption.

Keep in mind the weight that they are versus an inboard set up so you don’t need as much power to move the boats.
