Today’s television shows will never compare to the great comedies of the 1970’s.
@river_acheron Жыл бұрын
I disagree. Every generation says this. Not just about TV but about everything. If this statement was true, that every generation that came before the previous was better than what would come next...going as far back into antiquity. I seriously doubt things just keep getting worse generation after generation for thousands of years. Things CHANGE; thats all. Being better or worse is highly subjective and psychological. There's no objective absolute in your comment. A person who grew up with 50s Tv, or 90s TV would say the same about what they remember the fondest during their formative years. That's how nostalgia works. But it's an illusion. It's not that things are worse now. It's just that your generation is viewing things thru the lens of nostalgia. I take psychology in college.

CBS had a Murderer’s Row of sitcoms on Saturday nights back then. All In the Family, MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart and Carol Burnett. Each of them an absolute classic, and CBS had them all in one night. We will never see the likes again.

i disagree. Every generation says this. There are MANY amazing shows and talent that's just as good as this. What you speak of is simply nostalgia, which is a very base, human psychological phenomenon.
@mlbrooks40663 ай бұрын
I think the difference is that back in the 70s there were only 3 networks and a LOT fewer shows being produced. Today, there are hundreds of shows produced for all kinds of streaming services as well as network TV. The talent pool is different. Actors had to be better back then to get the work. If you weren't as good an actor as Ed Asner or MTM, you didn't work as much because the better actors could beat you out. Now, productions have to hire people that are not necessarily as good, because they need more people.
