I was 16 in 77', and l had my 10 speed bike and my own bedroom in the basement with my OWN bathroom! It was like a studio apartment. I really like how detailed Bob's dreams were. It was a theme that continued into the next series.. His last dream was by far the longest! And just like in the Wizard of Oz people from Bob's real life ended up in his dreams as other people! ❤ RIP Bob! 😢❤

Thank you for this wonderful video! My parents, siblings and I would all watch, every Saturday night. We got to stay up late (and have one small glass of Coke and some chips) to watch MTM, Bob Newhart Show and Carol Burnett!! I was young and always loved when my mom and dad would laugh at these shows…I didn’t understand the humor until I got older.😂 This particular episode is special because of the United Airlines commercial too. As a child I dreamed of being a flight attendant and for the past 25 years I’ve been doing just that…living in Chicago 🏙️ and flying for United Airlines!! ✈️

An interview in the 90s mentioned that Poston and Plechette came up with the last episode of Newhart at a couples dinner as an off the cuff joke based on this episode. However the show kept getting wilder and wilder after Larry, Darryl and Darryl became regulars. It had become complete farce by the last season... So my guess is that Newhart himself came up with something like that years prior.

Well hello Bob (take a drink). 1st, I’m, not complaining, you did a wonderful job skirting You Tube’s restrictions, but I’m curious, of the thousands of shows you didn’t have to modify, why Bob? 2nd- I love how some of these classic sitcoms of the era deviated from the west or east coast and captured the essence of the cities more in the heart land of America. Mary Tyler Moore, Mols. Lavern and Shirley, Milwaukee and of course Bob in Chicago.

Only Bob Newhart had the uncanny ability to be dry in delivery and be so damned funny at the same time.

And just like that, it’s 1984-ish, I’m resting on the couch, home sick from school, watching morning tv reruns.

The guy bringing them drinks at the bar was on an episode of Newhart. He played a down-on-his-luck standup comedian who asked Dick if he could do his act in the dining room during dinner.

It was the 70s, after all. So your modification of the opening is how some viewers originally saw it haha.

This was made back before Chicago became uninhabitable. That's why its characters are depicted as jovial.

Bob was actually 8 years older than his character (age 40 in this episode). 40 is not too old to have kids.

@mchris65 It was definitely uncommon. "From 1972 and 2015, the share of newborns’ fathers who were older than 40 doubled from 4.1 percent to 8.9 percent".

@@malloriebrown2027 Yep. Looks like she was born 3 months after his 48th birthday. He and his wife spaced the 4 kids out. Bob was born in 1929. The kids were born in 1963, 1966, 1970 and 1977, so he was in his mid 30s to late 40s when they were born.
