I've done this dungeon several times so far and still have trouble with the tentacle dig on the 1st boss. So I finally came here to see the full explanation. I felt it wasn't as detailed as you usually do. Same with the spin mechanic of the last boss. I saw you got spiked every time. I would've mentioned that on the first spin, make your way down the left or right side until you spin out near the entrance. Then for the 2nd spin, be sure to spin down the center and move on the opposite side from where he jumps, then just make a circle around which ever set of spikes you're near. I love your guides and always rely on them!! Thanks for the walkthroughs!! ❤

Those tentacle digs gave all my groups trouble... still seems to. The ripples can be hard to see so turning down spell effects here definitely helps.

@@Strider_Shinryu Watch to see where the tentacle swirl is going to stop... The center of the blast appears to come from the "stopping point" of the tentacles.

I am absolutely hopeless on that first boss. As soon as it starts throwing both han-- I mean, tentacles, I'm absolutely getting hit by at least one AoE unless I'm lucky enough to guess the safe area -- which I almost never do. It's so bad I now warn healers that I'm going to get smacked because I fail so hard on that particular boss. Still trying to get better, but something about the way the tentacles move just mystifies me.

I love this dungeon except for the second boss. There’s just something about avoiding the hand lasers that my brain struggles with. Makes farming aphorism a pain in the ass.

Each odd (1,3,etc) strike, the lasers are just on the corners. Stand at the gap in the armour to avoid. Each even one (2,4,etc) the lasers have 2 spots where they are along the edge of the arena firing straight across; find those ones and stand on the inside edge next to one of them to be in firing gap =)

The tentacle dig is the most annoying thing I have come across so far in FFXIV dungeon. As a Black Mage, it's my job to know where things go and where the telegraphs appear. But this one seems so damn random I can't seem to get away. If I were to keep running away from the tentacles, that waste so much movement spells which Is not the best thing to do as Black Mage.

Tentacle Dig: If blue curls forward it will hit west, if blue curls back it will hit east. If red curls forward it will hit NW or NE, if red curls back it will hit SW or SE. If red curls forward, run to the very southern edge. If red curls back, run to the very northern edge.

I imagine you've gotten used to it by now but just save a triplecast and a xenoglossy and boom, you have ten seconds of time to figure out where the tentacles are going. Better yet, bind Aetherial Manipulation to a mouseover spell and just let someone else figure out the mechanic and then just tp to them.

So I just noticed something about the "Tentacle Dig" mechanic that may help some people... I've had issues figuring out where the actual circles form from the pattern... They don't draw out the circles; the center of the circles form from where the tentacle stops in the water, so watch to see where they are swirling to in order to avoid them =)

Love the second and third boss. But that first boss... I always get hit with the second+ round of tentacle bleed debuff. I can never figure out where it's going to go. Octopus bosses are my nemeses.

Damn that mechanic is a dick. I was hoping there’s a pattern to know *where* the tentacle digs will end up at. I queued this dungeon more times I queued Dead Ends, Sigmascape and Smileton combined and I still get hit by that mechanic 7 out of 10 times. I got this dungeon so many times that I want to move on to tanking this dungeon rather than DPSing it… Guess it’s time to die to tentacle di**!

This guide does not live up to MTQ's high standards. In the most critical and difficult mechanics, you simply say that "players need to figure out the safe zones". Like, whoa, seriously? People don't come to these usually excellent guides to listen to be told that "I am not going to bother". I've done this duty several times but I've never been able to really grasp how to tell the safe zones from Tentacle Dig and the Articulated Bits, so I came here to have a firmer grasp on the mechanics. The MTQ I know would show these mechanics at least one more time in slow motion and point exactly to what players should pay attention to to determine the safe zones - not say something as dismissive as "figure out for yourself". I can't imagine the MTQ that created the Fulmination guide simply saying something like "players need to figure out which one of the orbs will explode in a large AoE so they can move the the safe zone."

For spin out in the final boss I really wish someone had told me you need to use WASD keys so here is for those poor souls that suffered as I have trying to figure out what guides meant by change direction. (Because simply turning and spinning the mouse or changing camera angles did not work)

Same here! I was about to start crying in trying to control myself until I realized this. Any attempts to control with the mouse left me spinning out of control and dying every time. As soon I realized you **only** control yourself with WASD, it became very clear. I haven't seen any walkthroughs actually **mention** this specifically when describing the mechanic.

Really cool dungeon with some fun, but challenging mechanics. Not terrible once you learn it though, nice guide. I will say that using a top down approach helped me spin to win on last boss, the second set of spins is the hardest.
