MTV could have made Madonna, Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey to their first icon but they chose Janet Jackson such a deserving choice Janet impact, influence and achievements is grounbreaking Janet being MTV 1st Icon means a lot and I love how all the artists who were still new and fresh at the time came out to make this event really special for Janet this was a wonderful event in music.

Right before the release of her All For You era... and right before Aaliyah died and 9/11 changed the world and MTV forever. It would never be the same after this aired. MTV lost its ability to present specials like this. Props to whoever designed the stage. It looks incredible even today 20 years later in 2021. It looks like a VMA production. I think the problem is definitely that there aren't any other icons. Michael was the really the only other artist who had such amazing and innovative videos with such incredible choreography. Other than that, Janet was the best female to ever do it when it came to music videos, I mean her choreography, fashion, innovative videos like Rhythm nation, Alright, Control, The Pleasure Principle, Got Til It's Gone, Nasty, Black Cat, If, the list goes on, it says so much that Janet was the first MTV Icon and goes down in history as the only pop artist ever to be an MTV Icon. This tribute was amazing for Janet, she deserved every part of it, no one deserved this more than Janet. She worked so hard, Janet is utterly godly. The Empress of Pop.

Ms. Janet Jackson is a total class act. She set the bar high for female Entertainers. She's the total package. #MichaelJackson used to call her Ms. Rhythm Nation (HeeHee). Huge compliment from him. I truly believe all her siblings were proud, but to blaze a trail on her own separate from her brothers who made up #TheJackson5 & later #TheJacksons was just.. Mind blowing. #MichaelJackson is definitely #TheKingMJ4Ever and most would agree that #JanetJackson is #QueenJanet4Ever .. She deserves to be celebrated so much more cuz #MTV knows #MJ blasted the doors off their hinges when he debuted #BillieJean .. It was revolutionary. The 1980s were ruled by #MJ #Prince & #Madonna but in 1986 the #Control album was released enabling #JanetJackson to rule the 1990s & today.. I look around & no doubt #Music worldwide has been inspired by #TheSvruseJacksonFamily 💖🌈🎆 I can't wait to go to a concert b/c I'm going to see every Jackson out there .. Esp. the mega-talented #JanetJackson 😍 I'm a #ForeverFan 💖🌈💙✌🏾

Even though it's been over 30 years, that scene about the two sisters who dropped out of school (26:00 to 26:40) is still very tough to watch without shedding any tears. However they were inspired by the song on the *Rhythm Nation 1814* album, The Knowledge. They realized how important an education was and then went back to graduate high school, they realized the mistake they would've made if they didn't. it's also great to know that they graduated college and that Janet framed and returned their tassels, because they put the hard work in. (Well done both of you, because you did the right thing) I personally believe that this proves the legacy that the Rhythm Nation album had 30 years ago, is still important even now and should never be forgotten or ignored. I can tell you from experience that those messages from Rhythm Nation 1814, also affected me as well and caused me to make changes in my life.
