When she ended up leaving for her own show they definitely leaned into the sex aspect of singled out with Carmen Electra, which whatever but I don’t think they liked that Jenny would troll the men in the audience sometimes even though Jenny was the reason most people watched. At the time she appealed to both men and women. She was beautiful, but she liked fart jokes lol she had a broader range of personality in my opinion.

This brings back memories. A couple of my friends and I were on this show as members of the female “dating pool”. The final 3 contestants are pre selected, and the dating pool were basically what amounts to unpaid extras. We did receive a decent meal and a “parting gift” bag, including a Victoria’s Secret Gift certificate, some toiletries, and a t-shirt with the show logo. All in exchange for standing on a stage screaming your voice out on que, over and over for a few hours. It was pretty funny to watch the hosts basically clowning all the fools within reach. And, yes, all the creepy and awkward behavior by the daters was encouraged by the ADs/crew to be hype and wild, because I guess that was the Mtv brand back in the day. Point a bunch of cameras at a group of screaming teenagers to create staged “excitement”. 😂 it’s a cringe fest, but it was kinda fun at the time, I guess. 😅

So I know that girl’s bad chicken impression is what kicked off Jenny’s “cHiCkEn LaDy” thing, but I’m almost POSITIVE that Jenny’s referencing a character Mark McKinney used to do on Kids in the Hall… Which just makes me think I’ve been underestimating Jenny McCarthy, because imo KITH is one of the most brilliant comedy shows of all time and I wouldn’t have expected her to dig it. And her impression of the Chicken Lady character is kinda REALLY good, which makes me think she’s practiced it before.

One of my friends was casted to an MTV reality show in the 90s. It was one where MTV turns you into a music star. He was the only actual musician, and not a high schooler like the show wanted you to believe. He was close to 30. Anyway, he said it was really horrible because MTV didn't want the girl's real life best friend to be in the episode because she was disabled. Oh the 90s.

Thanks for taking me down memory lane to one of my favorite vacation stories of all time. When I was 12, our family went to Panama City Beach, Florida for spring break. My parents booked our hotel through an agent and the agent never mentioned that the hotel she was booking for a family of six (bro-13, me-12, bro-10 and sis-8) was next to MTV’s headquarters for their Spring Break special and was almost completely booked with drunk college age kids going to MTV’s spring break extravaganza. Soooo…imagine my parents delight upon arriving that the hotel was not so family friendly, the beach outside was covered with college age drunk kids basically naked trying to get on tv, and camera crews strolling around everywhere…and you guessed it…an episode of Singled Out was being filmed while we lounged on the beach…the highlight of the dating show being a wet t-shirt contest. Needless to say…we lasted a few days before my parents could find another hotel far far away. I just remember my Mom trying to desperately explain why we couldn’t go on the beach or outside because what would people think of her with her children out there in all that and my Dad yelling on the phone to the agent about how she needed to fix this because of course she should have known that MTV was using this hotel for their spring break. Still one of the funniest memories I have from a family vacation. 😹😹😹

My uncle used to live in Panama City, so we'd go down to visit every spring break until I was 12 or 13. MTV started doing their spring break special there the last couple years we went and it was CRAZY!! We would end up going to Mexico Beach instead cuz Panama City Beach was way too crowded and obnoxious, so I can't even imagine being stuck in one of those hotels!

I think Jenny was trying to make a reference to the Chicken Lady from the show Kids in the Hall (which I think you'd really like, actually! There's a segment where Dave Foley - the ant from A Bug's Life - has a tone of voice that always sounds sar castic even when he's being sincere... And another where Kevin McCarthy - Pleakley from Lilo & Stitch - has a To-Do List of 7 Things and he's desperately trying to stay on top of his life/chores but becomes a hostage in a robbery situation... I could go on and on!). Anyway, Chicken Lady is a half lady half chicken character from that show. Who, uh, is actually one of my least favorite characters but only 'cause her voice kinda hurts my ears. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Thank you SO MUCH for keeping my husband and me entertained throughout 2022 (one of the worst years of either of our lives). We're immensely grateful and hope you take plenty of time to relax before coming back with what we know will be awesome content in 2023. I'm sorry I never comment, but I watch every episode and I'm always grateful. And I was SO excited you reviewed Taking 5 this year! I pre-ordered that movie when it came out because I was such a huge fan of The Click Five lol but it always felt like I was the only one who'd even heard of that film. Take care and happy 2023! They brought couples to a ‘resort’ but the catch is their exes are there at the resort too but nobody knows and the producer put the couples who USED to date in a room and the current couples in another and they are watching them in secret to see if they will cheat. At the end of every episode they get to decide if they want to stay as a couple or dump them and get back with their ex.

This is a classic for me! I had a realization several months ago while watching "The Ultimatum" that the only dating shows I enjoy are ones where relationships are tested (ripped apart), and I think it all traces back to Ex Effect. That being said, my next show is "Love for the Ages" where married couples separate & date younger people & then decide if they want to stay together.

Thank God I wasn't the only one with a crush on Chris Hardwick! I got teased for it by my friends, his jokes were corny but he was adorable. Was a boy in my 7th grade who looked just like the 12 year old version of Chris, he had that same 90's haircut as him, similar face, huge blue eyes i was stoked when I asked him out and he said yes. Few months later he dumped me for some other girl out of nowhere and watching Singled Out would remind me of him. Oh, to be 12 again! This show started airing in late spring/early summer of 1995, and this episode was from that season. Crazy to think it was nearly 30 years ago. I lived for this corny show 😂

I remember back in the late 90s after this show aired, someone called my mom's cousin's house for like a week straight (and we to this day aren't 100% WHO did it because no one has fessed up, and there's entirely a chance it was just a prank caller who none of us knew) and asked every single time she answered the phone "Is this the chicken lady? Can I speak to the chicken lady?" She was unfortunately not the chicken lady, but I still remember it so vividly because it was absolutely hilarious. So clearly, someone else wanted this to be a meme before memes were even a thing, and I think we should bring it back as a meme 100%

As someone who loved it when it came out (I was only 12!) all I need to say is be glad you weren't subjected to it at that age and somehow led to think the way the guys acted on this show was normal. And like you'd want to "win" a guy who was just showing a bunch of red flags. 😬
@winterlynn9012
@winterlynn9012 Жыл бұрын
@@angelasands1643 I was around 11-12 when this 1st aired, and while I was no expert on men or adult relationships at that age, (despite thinking I was, just because I had a "boyfriend " a grade above me) I never once believed back then that this show was realistic, or that anyone acted like this in real life, everything was so overly dramatic, ridiculous and shallow. Plus you can tell nobody is really being themselves. The show made everyone look foolish, including the hosts. Don't really see how anyone could exhibit any "red flags " since everything was so over the top and phony. It seemed far from how normal people would act in real life. However I was guilty of letting an MTV show influence me negatively at age 11, was MTV'S The Grind and The beach house. All those fit,attractive women dancing in tiny bikinis had me working out till 4am on my brothers Norditrack while everyone slept, and eating nothing but slimfast bars. Despite me being a perfectly normal weight, I thought I needed tight washboard abs to be attractive at 11. Finally stopped when i stopped getting my period for 4 months, was always weak and got scared and told my mom so yeah I definitely don't think MTV was the greatest thing for those of us who were impressionable preteens at the time.

Definitely think that would be up Jaime's alley for this series. Also, Happy New Years Jaime! 😊💜

In the US, we had it on HBO and then Comedy Central. Now it's on Pluto and Amazon Prime. It's a phenomenal show, if u haven't seen it, you should. BTW, there's no way Jenny McCarthy isn't on drugs here. She seems to be taking a bump every commercial break.

Please tell me someone out there remembers the dating show “Bzzz!” (that is spelled correctly, “bzzz” not “buzz”). It had a very similar aesthetic to this show.. mystery “bachelor/ettes” would stand behind the screen of a huge pink heart, and all you saw was their silhouette while they answered questions for the person “looking for ❤love❤”. They even had a blonde host with a bob haircut. I think they showed it on tnt or tbs during the daytime in the 90’s. And there are episodes available to watch on KZbin. I just can’t find anyone in my life who remembers it…they only remember singled out! (Overly long comment, but I gotta know that I’m not the only one!)

She and her son went on the dating show and she picked a good girl --before finding out she was a pole dancer. She was even worse than the previous girlfriend (in the mom's eyes)!
