MTV's Making the Game: Spider-Man 2 (2004, FOUND MEDIA)

Some other pieces of lost media relating to Spider-Man 2 the movie game: the website! While it's saved on the Wayback Machine and you can visit it, it's largely not operational and this site was extremely cool. Earlier on there were many different open world side missions that were going to be included (one of them included the rooftop lady from the first movie game returning but with lost objects scattered throughout the city's many rooftops!), a series of side missions with a cyber-ninja gang, wall combat, and biggest of all were the sewers and related Lizard/Kraven/Calypso storyline. The sewers were ambitious being comparable to the size of the above-ground city, some sections being mazelike, others being described as giant football field sized tunnels to freely swing straight through without bumping into buildings (seen as an alternative way to travel faster making shortcuts and coming back up across a different side of the city). The sewers and related story were cut about 6 months till release. Lizard, super Lizard (shows up in the Gameboy Advance cutscene!), Kraven, and Calypso (she's in the game's fight arena, not with complete AI but you can fight her there!) were modeled and in the process of movesets being animated. LylaFur earlier just this year discovered several remnants of sewer entrances left over in the game still underneath the map, you can see videos of those on her channel here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hni3dKqgl7qVZ5o There's also the E3 2003 build of this game which is pretty much an early test build of the game where there's only a small square unit of playable real estate to swing around in, with some earlier iteration of the swing mechanics implemented. It also had some other differences from the released version, but that build and any other early builds of the game would be amazing to see uncovered and shared with the community someday. I'm not so much on the pulse of game preservation but it was such a treat last year seeing a late build of the canceled 2003 Daredevil game be shared and playable for the world at long last.

I can barely get passed watching this without pausing it and putting my head down. 20 years ago we were in 2004. To all you young kids out there who read this PLEASE ENJOY YOUR YOUTH AND TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED. Dont take your health, your time, your friends and your loved ones for granted. I miss my grandparents and other loved ones so much. I cant state this enough. you guys have no idea what id give to hear my old alarm clock ringing and to be in my old twin sized bed, getting up 6 am for middle school(6th grade). i miss my friends, the older 8th grade bullies who looked like adults to me for some reason, my teachers , lunch, God the rush id get on a friday when the bell rang for school being over. we all had plans or so we thought LOL. hitting the mall, blockbuster eating out, etc etc. Oh and so many of my beloved family, friends were alive. my grandparents, my aunt, uncle, my dads best friend, my childhood friend, my cousin, even my pet dog are all gone. and things were never the same. in fact i got my cat in 2004 and my dog in 2006 and i miss them dearly. RIP THE GOOD TIMES😭

Two things I love in one, lost media, and Spider-Man. I was only 6 back in 2004, so I didn't really understand television content in its entirety nor did I really know what MTV was. But seeing this kind of stuff really takes me back. Making of specials were a real treat and of course we still kind of get them from official companies on KZbin, but nothing captures this old school magic. Thank you for doing lords work by uploading this, I had no idea MTV did a making of show. It does somewhat remind me of MTV GameBrain from 1997, it wasn't a making of but rather a cheesy game guide "movie", which you can find on KZbin.

Still remember this when it aired on channel MTV2 in 04. Never got the chance to play at that time. But now 20 years later in 2024, recently I just picked this up on my Gamecube and beated it! Difficult somewhat lol but a gem game for sure 🔥

Yo the website got saved in Wayback? Sweet! I hope someone get's it fully operational. The background was one of the strongest 2000's Spidey images I remember. It was also on some magazines & comic books. EDIT: Very amazing docu. Admittingly it didn't really delve into the gameplay bits & went for the other aspects of the game, but I guess that's what the DVD docu was for.

You guys have no idea how happy 😀and depressingly nostalgic this makes me. God you guys have no idea what id sacrifice to go back to these times. everything was still soo perfect, just the right balance with technology, we were in the ps2, xbox, gamecube era, we had Good music tv shows movies and the atmosphere was perfect. *sigh*. After watching this i just wanna wake up and it be 2004 again I miss going to school, having friends, having innocent crushes, having fun on the school bus coming home, going outside to play and hang out for hours, going to blockbuster, arcades, the holidays... Dam man you never know what you got until its gone. it breaks my heart when i go to my old neighborhood and see that all my friends have moved on, new faces, strangers, everything is just so different. i feel like a relic and im barely even 30.... I regret trying to grow up so fast. we 90s babies and kids had it soo good.

Never played these games or didn't grow up with raimis movies but man i think Tobeys performance in these games are great. Ik people joke and say he phoned it in or he didn't try but I disagree. I think he gives it his best. It's not anything phenomenal but it's not as awful as people make it out to be. From the many many clips I've seen, he captures Spidey quick witted, heroic personality perfectly I read he even participated to voice himself, as he has family who love video games.
