This was definitely the best vmas of the 2000s. Such an epic VMAs. I still don't get how Vanessa Carlton "A Thousand Miles" wasn't nominated. That was literally the biggest song of 2002. I would've nominated her for video of the year, best female & new artist.

not really, most of the famous people in 2002 are still relevant (Britney, jlo, jimmy fallon, usher, justin, shakira, diddy, eminem) and things havent changed drastically from when I was born (1985) from 1985-2002 everythng was completely different than what it is in 2002-2024, even music hasnt changed that much.

Naw, the reason I tuned in was because MTV was advertising he was getting the Millennium award. They duped him in for ratings. He had just got Artist of the Millennium Award from the World Music Awards and that was MTV's way of getting him to appear. It's pretty fucked up!

Shakira got more international momentum a few years after Laundry Service. That album sold a huuuuge amount, but then the Oral Fixation series, not so much.
