I visited Estonia over the New Year Holiday with my University choir. We sang this as an encore at every concert we performed. The reaction from the audience was something I will never forget for the rest of my life. The Estonian people are such a beautiful people who know the true definition of resilience, and use music as a way to unite. I can't wait to go back!

Sadly large scale immigration does affect something like this.If a youth group in my country would hold events like this, with pagan flower crowns, nationalist songs, and national flags, the papers would speak of nazi indoctrination camps for kids. Why? Because everything must be diverse and diverse actually means less of the indigenous culture. I truly hope the world will learn & actually stay truly diverse. So we can witness something great like this Estonian event. Or a unique event anywhere else on the world. That is true diversity. Not grey boring consumerist culture that is the same everywhere because people don't share anything else anymore.
@lalalalalala84823 жыл бұрын
my Father always said, "you can't have international without national". Strength thru Diversity is based on a false premise. The premise that diversity strengthens. It may broaden experience, but not necessarily strengthen unless a common ideal is felt.

I love Estonia. I studied Russian and lived in St Petersburg, and when I needed a new visa I went to Estonia. I got to DISCOVER Estonia. I hadn't studied about it. I hadn't prepared for it. I discovered it; its history; its passion; its memory. I fell in love with Estonia, and I love it still. I've only been there a total of a couple of months, but I made the rounds in Tallinn, Tartu and Narva. I share as often as I can about this beautiful place, and adore the film The Singing Revolution. I've been to Riga and Vilnius, and I've been to Poland and Finland, but Estonia captured my heart. I will be at the next Laulupidu. God bless you from Virginia, USA!

Narva is no longer an Estonian city, it has become another Russian town, also in mentality. Keep that in mind while in that city - this is not Estonia. I recommend such towns as Haapsalu and Pärnu. And Otepää in Southern Estonia, a tiny town on the shore of probably the most beautiful lake in Estonia called the Sacred lake (Pühajärv). My condolences on living in Russia. I would commit suicide on my third day in Russia, I could never survive living there. there is just something I so deeply cannot stand about Russia, I cannot even put it into words what it is. It is a really pathetic brainwashed country despite all its military might. It is a country that has sabotaged its own gems, its writers, poets, composers. The only two good experiences I have had in St Petersburg were Hermitage (the Egyptian part) and Swan lake ballet at the Maria Theatre.
@HelenGolovina-y9h6 ай бұрын
And also, check out Estonian nature. We have a lot of it and our nature is the most Estonian thing about Estonia. Nothing almighty about it: no high mountains, no vulcanos etc. But there is something about it, how untouched it is and how available. If I had to point out just one Estonian trait, it would be our respect for nature (Russians have no such respect, they think that nature and animals are there for them to take advantage of) Our last president (Kersti Kaljulaid) even declared all forest animals in Estonia to be estonian citizens and we have holograms of wolves, beers, elk and lynx in our passports.
@markheithaus6 ай бұрын
@@HelenGolovina-y9h thank you for sharing!!!! I did finally get back last year and availed myself of some nature trails. Estonia has a very special place in my heart. I'll be there next year for the 2025 singing festival, and I'll be staying with friends. Unfortunately, I agree with what you said about Russia. I remember being in Vyborg and I was dismayed by the amount of trash. It's not so much a problem in the bigger cities because of the public services, but you can tell that the people don't care where the public services are lacking. It was particularly disheartening to see in Vyborg. It's an otherwise lovely place with a lot of potential, but nobody felt any personal responsibility. "The government will do it" or "someone else will do it" is too prevalent an attitude there. Anyway, I want to end on a happy note, so GOD BLESS ESTONIA!!!!!! 🇺🇲🇪🇪🇺🇲🇪🇪

There is no way to listen to this hymn and not feel a long for something greater, even more beautiful, more lovingly... hard to keep my tears away every time I listen to it... it made me love Estonia even though I never been there! The richness of her story even in the face of such suffering under the iron curtain and its hammer... What a passion... what a love... "I will lie down in your lap for eternal sleep, my holy Estonia!" What a poetry....! What a land! It is not hard to love this people and its land ... not at all! It is too complicated to be a national anthem. Drunk people at a football match would slaughter it. There are two other peace of music I think (and many others) would be good as anthems. "Ta läheb mesipuu poole" and Pärt Uusberg "Muusika" (there is a phrase in that song "There has to be immortality somewhere"). Maybe you want to check them out, they give quite a good feeling of who we are.

It started in 1868 if I remember correctly. I don't remember the exact reason though. It's a very big event, thousands of singers come together in some years(I don't know that system) and sing together. The next one is 2017 30. June- 2. Lõdvemalt öeldes, lollikari usub kõike, mida neile räägitakse ja lollikarja manipuleerimisel on tsensuur, lihtlabane avaliku arutelu piiramine, ilmselgelt mõjus, kuid ahvikari džunglis mõjutab planeedil Maa toimuvat üpris vähe.
