Absolutely love Muay Chaiya...(!!)... Without question, my absolute favourite martial system of all.... I like it even more than Panantukan, and the Philipino systems, which were formerly my favoured martial system, alongside Israeli Krav Maga, which has also influenced my own fighting method immensely. But having a base in Muay Thai, ( having started as nak muay 25 years ago), and having always continued to train in it throughout, alongside learning other systems, and with a heavy leaning towards the Siamese martial arts naturally [ likely due to my origins being in the style], l have found that, especially in the few altercations that l have encountered over the years, l have found that under the immediate pressure of encountering violent situations, that for manifold and various reasons, I have been caught up in in the past, l have immediately reverted back to, and successfully employed Muay Thai technique in "looking after myself", so to speak, { and in looking after others also, along the way..}.... The simple, effective, and powerful basics, techniques, and tactics ( as well as, especially, the full contact training ), of the Thai martial arts, are extremely effective in the streets....Fact. This is more a "side effect" of training, l have found, as all dedicated and true martial warriors will, no doubt, understand; training in these systems has a great many profound benefits that are easily just as beneficial, ( some even more so), than just learning and knowing how to fight well... Muay Chaiya has captured my focus of late, in a big way, and I am beginning to focus in on this style more and more, as l go along. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and sharing insights into this fantastic martial system with the warriors of the world. Max respect.

Your comment is very interesting, and thanks for the positive feedback. Practice the 4 baws, definitely work with a partner. It can be mixed up more than the video shows here, and there are more moves to add... 😀 Enjoy!

Nathan Brown, I know not if you still upload or still teach Muay Thai Chaiya, but in speaking for people like me, DO NOT STOP!!! I am an American born citizen and Muay Thai is my core or most favorite Martial Art and although MMA and American teachers are good, I prefer traditional or pure unadulterated Muay Thai teaching. I am not yet in the position to travel to Thailand and your videos and teachings EXEMPLIFY my passion and desire to learn and hone my Muay Thai / Muay Boran skills. PLEASE CONTINUE!

Quickly falling in love with muay chaiya. the muay boran styles are amazing, i come from a jujutsu (trad) judo and kyokushin kai karate background and the Muay Boran styles impress me more than other martial art i've seen thus far for unarmed combat. They fit so beautifully into grappling arts like judo and jujutsu and they flow so much nicer than karate styles IMO. Keep it up man, you chose a fantastic fighting form to train in.

I love this, been doing Wing Chun for years and a bit of Sanshou. This technique looks very similar to the plum fist...open/close gate in Kung-fu, but more fluid and not so rigid, great defense move. Seems like there's a lot more to Boran than typical club Muy Thai. I can't afford to go to Thailand from London right now, but really appreciate what you are teaching here Nathan :)

You can use Thadmalaa for this - in fact Kru Lek told me a story of how Pramajarn Kaet had demonstrated this concept. Kru Lek couldn't use his hand for a couple of weeks! Simple blocking like this is under the 'Bong' in the 4Bs (Bong, Bat, Bit, Beurt). The advantage of the parries is that they can be used to slip the attack and directly counter. Blocking and damaging the weapon is good to deter an aggressive opponent, or damage a cautious one :)

Hey Jonny, there's a lot more to Muay Chaiya than the standard (ring) Muay Thai, I'm glad you like it. I'm in the UK now and actually organising a seminar in London next month. Check out my Facebook page (facebook.com/mymuaychaiya) for more information :)

isnt this muay thai chaiya boran ( am i right ?) this is battle field fighting style the ring style muay thai is for sports sir there is another defensing technique for blocking straight punch and hook by using elbow ( there is no parry when the offender punches in the end the offender is more hurt then the defender ) can u tell me what is it called , and tell me more about it

Great stuff! very practical, however, I have a question about what you refer to as "Bit" (if you don't mind?). Is that really more for training an elbow strike than defense? Isn't it risky to leave your ribs exposed to the opponent? Thank you for any info you chose to share on this.

Thanks, no problem for the questions! Firstly, Muay Chaiya had a defense first strategy. These techniques (especially the Bit techniques) combine to create a very solid defense. Once you have them working week for defense, extending then for offense is trivial. It's amazing how much more effective a fighter you can be when you are confident in your defense! Secondly, all martial art techniques have vulnerabilities, some more than others... But its not a case of standing there in Tadmalaa as your guard and leave your front side completely open to attack. These techniques are used as part of a combination, and so the window of opportunity would be very small. However, like all techniques, they are vulnerable to feints, so if someone feinted a high hook, and changed it to a low hook, then the could possibly catch you out... However, as mentioned, if used correctly this would not just be a block/parry but a counter, and potential still slip past the opponents low hook. Does that make sense?

yes, that does make sense, the more I think of it in terms of moving rather than in isolation. At first I was thinking perhaps it would work best same side in other words you right arm pushing the opponents left across center but the elbow counter wouldn't be the same. Thanks so much for responding, I will definitely be going over your videos with a fine tooth comb your an excellent instructor!@@nathanbrown19

sir the defence bong is when the right hand is in front of the left eye and left hand in front of the right eye and the hands and legs are at 45 degree , but the defence BIT is where the left hand is near the left eye and the right hand is near the right eye. since bong is the basic stand ..my question is that when someone is straight punching, how can defender from bong stands, go to a smooth transaction to bit defence ? since BONG is more like in a cross position and BIT is more like in a parallel ! ..
@nathanbrown19
@nathanbrown19 10 жыл бұрын
Bong in it's simplest form protects against a jab in same stance or a cross in opposite stance (as both cover the center line) If a punch (jab in opposite, cross in same stance) sneaks over the Bong forearm, then Tadmalaa will parry the hand past (using the front/top arm) or Joop Sawg, using the back hand. Tadmalaa and Joop Sawg (and Wiang Sawg) are Bit movements/parries/blocks/counters. Best to use back hand/front hand when describing these moves, as it depends on what stance you are in. As outlined above, it is important at higher levels to understand the relationship of your stance and the opponents to really master these techniques. If this doesn't answer your questions, it's probably best you do a video response explaining your question. :)

Sorry Xavier - those moves are pretty much for the movies only. Kru Lek refuses to teach them as they're unpractical and pretty useless to be honest. There are a few jumping and hopping movements in Muay Chaiya, but they take a lot of practice and require you to get good with the rest of the basics first. but even these are very short and precise. If you want the fancy 'flying techniques' you should look for another school or more into 'Muay Boran'
