I m 45 now, start in 2016 at 41 in kyokushin, trained extremely hard for 2 years ,enter my first full contact tournament at 43, I lost, my right leg ligament got torned, wanted to carry on but I end up with medical complication my stomach raptured, nearly died, had to stop, now after I have healed , I have switch to muay Thai recently, great way to keep fit, tough but I like it, to all the gen x guys here, don't give up, age means nothing, as long u can run & Walk, keep going , we may not win due to lack of flexibility, speed & agility, but we will not quit

Good for you my brother! Im 40, been involved in Muay Thai since 2000. Training/fighting & sparring for 10 yrs or so. Cpl yr hiatus, during shoulder & hand surgery. Then coaching since '13. Past year been helping a local Boxing school, I've decided to take a possibly FINAL fight in 4 mos. Training my ass off. Noticed that yes Ive got ring rust from hell, stiff, my wind isnt great, etc but that's coming bk each training session. I do see an advantage however. With fight AND coaching exp..I see a lot more, my ring IQ is higher than ever etc. So I appreciate guys like you, & just shows. Fighting (Starting or RE Starting) after age 30 even.. There's pros & cons. Best to you Carnal!

thankyou so much for this video, i was starting to believe that i am destined to become a complete failure in martial arts, because I'm almost 40 and haven't fought against the blue to black in tatami yet and my dream is to earn a name as a fighter, by one day surviving in both a full contact wako and k1 match against a good fighter.. i believe if i cant survive in the ring, then I don't deserve the name a fighter, and don't deserve the name.. martial artist.. that's all I want, just the name doesn't have to become the best i just want to earn the name a fighter.. and at moment I'm worlds worst purple belt, fighting and barely surviving the white to green belt tatamis yes I know I have on a complete impossible dream despite my age.. but this man, this man is now my new hero.. because he proofs me wrong. and I am thanking him for that.

👏 Get it Ricky! I am a woman about to turn 48 and training for my first fight. My coach sent this video to me. To me, age isn't "just a number". It's way more than that. It is life experience. And a different mindset. Like most people, when I was in my 20s, I thought I knew everything. Looking back, I knew little to nothing. My philosophy now is "Work smarter, not harder". People can disagree all they want, but I know what works for me. I adapt and adjust constantly. Like Bruce Lee said "Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own.” The majority of people like to generalize and lump everyone in one category or "box them in" to their own limited way of thinking and prejudices. But people forget something very important. There are some of us who choose not to limit ourselves and just go along with society's rules. Instead, we push harder and refuse to limit ourselves to achieve our goals and dreams despite our circumstances. A wise person once told me "The one who wins is the one whose WHY is the strongest". I do not allow my age to limit or stop me from going forward and pursuing what I love and want to do. It is only too late once you are dead. However I am realistic, I know recovery time could be longer than it was in my 20s or 30s. And I have to put in twice the effort as someone half my age. But am I going to let that stop me? No. I love Muay Thai! I tell people: You either support me or get out of my way! I do not care about your negative opinions and issues with my age. That is YOUR issue, not mine. I did not always have this relentless mindset. It took a ton of work and time to get here. But, I now believe that nothing in this world is impossible. The word itself says: IM POSSIBLE Note: I may be a "freak of nature" as my ex put it though. No one ever thinks I look older than 30. So that part helps in a way.

Yes, you do have to have been athletic at some point earlier in life and in somewhat decent shape. It would really help if you've trained combat sports atleast on a basic beginner level before trying to become a fighter who competes because a total couch potato novice has ZERO CHANCE to become a good fighter over 35 imo

My goal is to (hopefully) go train in Thailand for a couple of months. I know many speak English at gyms there. But I want to train at a traditional Thai gym. Not one that mainly caters to Farangs. So my plan is to first learn to speak the language to better understand and communicate too.
