Thank you for this, each rotations during MMA when Muay Thai comes up I nearly always injure the birdies of my left foot when switching kicking, mainly, I think because of my range, of course that also screws up my pivot for round kicks as well.
@hioxd Жыл бұрын
Super late reponse but that happens because of the fact that you're not used to using the non dominate side (your left foot) to pivot. Your left foot intrinsic muscles are just experiencing some form of repetitive use strain. As soon as your increase the endurance of those foot muscles the less pain you'll have in your foot.
@curruptedJimbo Жыл бұрын
@@hioxd well, I appreciate the response regardless. Though I ended up having some bad luck during free sparing. My partner caught me on the inner side of my.did some damage. Would have been fine but some doctor missed the full extent of the damage. Gave my physio. Found out 4 months later that a chip of bone had been grinding the joint all that time. Had keyhole to flush it and smooth things out, now I walk with a slight limp and cannot pivot for shit. But....gave me a good life experience and am way better now, took up piano and violin instead.

awesome tutorial, thanks for including the slow motion part. What is the reason for doing the 'gallop' before the kick?
@warriorcollective9 жыл бұрын
***** Glad you enjoyed it, the 'gallop' or fast switch is essentially to try and add a bit of speed and power to the lead leg roundhouse kick, especially when doubling up.

nice vid, any chance on getting Rich to do a switch kick vs pendulum kick where the skip step isn't needed? I think on my pendulum kicks i bring my feet together which puts me off balance & is a give away that im going to throw the left leg
@warriorcollective10 жыл бұрын
PeteGainz Glad you enjoyed the vid, in terms of what you have asked for, the switch is not always needed to throw the kick. It is commonly used when power is wanted in the lead leg or when distance needs to be changed ie following a punch for example.You can effectively throw the kick with either a step or with out (although without, you need to generate a speed and hip by keeping your weight back and being explosive with the pivot) also so it really all boils down to (a) context and (b) your skill level with kicks. I will however make sure I get someone to do a tutorial on the different ways to execute that kick at some point in the future, hope this helps!

this is awesome, i started kickboxing a month ago, but everytime im done with the kicks the tops of my feet are always gushing blood. how do you kick and not get blisters? i know im not doing it right, i would just like to know any tips
@warriorcollective7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! First off, congrats for taking up such an awesome activity, you are now in some exceptional company ;-) Secondly, in answer to your question, it is a combination of conditioning, as in your body will start to toughen as your limbs get more used to the striking. Also, you need to make sure you are hitting more with the lower shin when utilising roundhouse kicks (or the very lowest, the instep of the foot) as opposed to striking with the end of the foot. This is how most injuries occur in the beginning with those learning how to kick in this manner. Hope this helps, keep up the training!!

Hi i like your video. I was wondering why do muay thai fighters not use this switch kick a lot? Is it because it is easy to read?
@treroney47208 жыл бұрын
because in today's muay Thai, most fighters lack fients and trickery. That's why I train American style kickboxing and karate. (along with judo and mma .)
@TTSetters8 жыл бұрын
Its like you don't see a lot of switch kicks and/or spinning back kicks (usually a taekwondo technique) which are really effective, but for some reason just aren't used. Look up joe rogan spinning side kick. You'll see the power in that, and why it's not used is odd.

@warriorcollective7 жыл бұрын
Everyone, and I mean everyone, has one leg that does not feel as strong or as accurate as the other (this is especially so when you have not been training that long), it really is just a case of practice! I always say work your weaker side twice as much as your stronger one regularly in order to try and get some balance!

what do you mean?
@FifaFanatic5558 жыл бұрын
For sure. Just kick with whichever leg is forward. So for an orthodox stance you use the left leg as shown in the video, if you fight soutpaw just mirror it, start with the right leg forwards, then step back with the right forwards with the left, and then kick with the right leg.
