I loved this, thank you so much! I also loved your explanation of frugal alternatives. I will be picking up some caulking! I started out craft painting and my big go to was lightweight spackle for texture. Also since craft snow (which can be used on a painting) can be pricey, I would build with the spackle then top it with a thin layer of snow for the texture. I've given you a like and I've subscribed, thank you for being a fellow frugalist!

14:00 A bit of trivia for you: We had the Golden Rep come to one of our Watercolor meetings once and he said that the Goldens used to be called modeling paste, then when someone was doing a new run of labels, they mis-spelled it as Molding Paste and they had already printed thousands by the time they discovered it so that's how the name got changed to Molding Paste because it would have cost too much to fix it.

One of my teachers said that we could use a coat of clear gesso as a ground for colored pencils to give the paper tooth. I use Golden's Self Leveling Gel as a glue and as a replacement for "dimensional magic" and things like that. I compared 5 brands with Goldens and they all did the same thing and the Goldens is cheaper in the long run. I just put it in a small bottle with a tip.

Great information, bias as I see below , hold the bottles still they are moved around too much so next time hold the bottle still or on the table for 30 seconds so we can see the product name and manufacturing company. Thank you for all the information.

Very informative video! Glad it uploaded. I have question for AAC about mediums. I like to buy my scrapbook albums at the thrift stores - brand new ones only - but I don't always like the cover. I was going to sew covers from fabric but I also like to paint and I think I'd prefer to paint them. So, what should I use as a base coat? I was thinking Gesso but not sure if I'm on the right track or not. Thanks - Crafty Violet

Violet Verhoog lightly sand the cover and use gesso, you will also want a varnish to make sure you can clean it.

Guess I ran out of my limit of characters. Anyway those paints would get so thick and I didn't know how to thin them out. Learned the hard way that just because they are water soluble it doesn't mean you can add water to them. Ruined a few jars that way. Now I am starting to understand how to make my own because I have all the metallic pigments. I can make my own. It used to be such a challenge to get glitter to adhere to the surface as well. Whew! Thanks so much for your valuable teaching videos. It has given me the courage to try and ask questions in the art supply stores where I was so intimidated because I wasn't a "true" artist. I guess we all are in our hearts☺️

This was difficult to absorb as products jiggled and moved quickly but I managed to gather information. Fortunately I've used mediums and have some already but I hoped to find out what exactly is considered acrylic 'binder', which types are most affordable, and what all it accomplishes. Is it what I've been using under another name or is it entirely different with specific limitations? I use plain Matt Liquitex gel medium and thin it as needed for most projects but I'd like to use fresh plant matter in my work and seal plant pieces prior so they won't dry and crumble while painting over them. A book I'm reading says to use acrylic binder so I wondered if it is something I already have or do I need something entirely different?
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
I think any acrylic medium will work. I think resin artists use gel medium or mod podge to seal leaves and flowers before adding in resin. What you have already should work.

I am a toll painter and have found that some yellows and reds are very translucent. In turn the base coat ends up needing a ton of layers. Would using a layer of gesso fix that issue? I use a sanding sealer but I don't think that helps with the paint.. just keeps the grain from raising.

Hi, Great informative video. I have a question.... I do a lot of high speed photography where I shoot glasses of milk mixed with food colouring and capture it on camera. I have mixed acrylics with milk but it makes the reds go pink and the blues light blue and so on. I am wondering of you could suggest a medium with the same viscosity of milk that wouldn't fade the colours. I use milk as opposed to water because it's not as transparent. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
