The 5 or 6 prong forks known as evils here in cornwall were better than the 4 prong as they picked up more because the prongs are closer together but were also heavier to use so you had to weigh up weight against amount moved when mucking out. Evil by name evil by nature after sharpening the points constantly across concrete,. More than once I pierced the side of my foot when it bounced off the plat and into my welly. Joys of farm work as a child, a lifestyle I adored and remember with fondness still at 67.

I found the teenage years to closely resemble Multiple Personality Disorder/schizophrenia. lol When my son was 13, I never knew who I was going to get in the mornings. "Beak at Christmas?" My father used to let all the hands have Christmas off as he had me and my brother from school, cheap labour ! Actually free labour, and no it was not in my interests as I buggered off & joined the Army as I couldn't get on with my brother, who eventually decided, or more likely his wife decided for him , that he didn't want to farm & left my dad in the crap!
