Idk why but when Modelers weather their models to look realistic, it just feels so satisfying!

This is literally therapy just watching or doing weathering on a model train. I do brass american prototypes for clients and myself and it's so satisfying to do weathering on a model...

Always intriguing seeing you weather a new engine and how much more effective/ authentic you make it look. Incidentally it looked marvellous on the video you posted yesterday. Loved all the coal added to the the tender and falling over the back of it.

Good on ya, Lew! She looks a treat lad! Still yet to get my own Accurascale Manor, I’m trying to get a start on my miniature 5 inch gauge West German Loco at the moment. I’ve got copies of the original drawings of the loco which is a DBB E10 or BR110 electric locomotive introduced in 1956. They never tell you how expensive this hobby can get lol 😆. But I never put a price on trains hehe 😉. It’s a necessity of which one must have. Take care and thanks for sharing with us. Regards, Caleb

Thanks Caleb. I can relate to that. Speaking of continental locos, I went into a model shop in Switzerland last year and my eyes nearly popped out my head at some of the prices. And British modellers think they have it rough! 🤣

Really great vid on how to apply some subtle weathering to a steam loco. I’m currently awaiting the arrival of an Accurascale Manor for the layout, I took advantage of their recent triple points offer. Being a modern image modeller weathering a steam loco seems quite daunting as they were generally so filthy, but I’m keen to try out the techniques that you’ve used. Thanks for sharing Cheers John B 😎

I thought the coal load was the least realistic part of this model. You have hidden it well. The excess coal spillage adds a nice touch of individuality, Perhaps the driver needs stretching on the rack for some contrived rules infraction. Alternatively, you could slip a soapbox under his feet to help him see out the cab windows! Well done again, Lewis!
@MouldyRaspberry
@MouldyRaspberry Жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. Yep I agree on the coal load. I’m sure he’d prefer the soap box over the rack any day!
@neilharbott8394
@neilharbott8394 Жыл бұрын
Much better 😁 The coal was probably overloaded on the Manors because their tenders are so small. They need to keep in the blue restriction lines, so routinely larger coal loads would be a problem, but since they could sub for Grange or Hall routes, they'd be short of fuel if not overloaded in those cases.

Hi Mouldy. Nice weathering job. I was a tad concerned at first over the choice of gloss varnish as satin is the norm but in the end, it seems to compliment the weathering. Maybe the brown around the water filler cap should be a tad darker but hey, your loco your choice. Well done! Paul. 👍❤️
@MouldyRaspberry
@MouldyRaspberry Жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. That’s a good point, I might add some gloss varnish there as well for a water effect.

You've done the right thing but at the wrong side. The Manor was lightly weathered, that bit is correct, but the running plate, bufferbeams and outside cylinders and wheels were immaculately clean. She was weathered on her boiler top and on top of her firebox casing. Her safety valve bonnet and whistle valve were slightly weathered too. Anyway, Erlestoke Manor should be pristine all over because she's a preserved engine.

Luckily there is lots of footage of manors running in the 1960s! Have a look at this video I've linked below from 4 minutes onwards, some very dirty ones! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYKloZxsmNJ9orM

checkmate Kelly 😂 Besides Mouldy Raspberrys layout is set in the 1960s, so having a pristine engine is sacrilegious.

@lewis, ive done a few airbrush weathering now as practice, but can i ask for some advice? How do you ensure that both sides of the loco are weathered to the same look? Each time i seem to do a better job on one side 😂

Another question if I may. Do you use point motors or are you hand of god? I am having a devil of a time to fit point motors on a layout that I cannot turn upside down for fitting. Thinking of doing without them! (hand of god)
