Alright, now we're talkin'! Muddy Waters, blues legend, backed by the Band, rock legends. Also, I think that's "Steady Rollin'" Bob Margolin playing guitar next to Robby Robertson. And next to him that's definitely Paul Butterfield playing harp. That's one stellar backup crew! Great pick Sandra. And as always, great reaction SAD. Two thumbs up! 👍👍

Muddy's real name was McKinley Morganfield, which sounds appropriately regal to my ears. I had the good fortune to see him open for Eric Clapton in Tucson on 3/28/1979. And, while Clapton put on a great show, Muddy blew him off the stage. As a related aside in rock and roll history, Clapton married Patty Boyd, George Harrison's ex, at Bethel Temple in Tucson the day before the concert.

Y’all taking me back to Memphis and N. Mississippi. If you’re a grown man, you are a mane. You’ll still hear it pronounced that way sometimes. Thanks for reacting to the great Muddy Waters.

Ha ha! Muddy is the Mane, for sure! Here in Maryland the local accent turns "man" into a 2-syllable word - "may-uhn", as in "Oh may-uhn!". 🤣

I got to hear Muddy Waters pay at my university back around 1978. He was so amazing with the audience! Totally commanding!

I can suggest another song of Muddy Waters, where he is playful and funky. It is You Can't Lose What You Ain't never Had. Must be the 1964 production of the Blues and Gospel Train. Filmed at a former railway station in Manchester, England. My favorite song of his.

Now you know where Brian, Mick and Keith got the name for their band. If I'm not mistaken, when they first arrived at Chess Records in Chicago, Mr. Morganfield was in overalls painting the hall or something. Double-take time! 😮😅❤

I read an anecdote about this performance in a book on Levon Helm (the heart and soul of the Band). During rehearsals the production crew decided the show was going to be too long and wanted to take Muddy out of the performers.Levon Helm said, that if they took Muddy out, then him and Muddy would find somewhere else to play that night. Muddy was back in and Mannish Boy was a highlight of the show.

Not to take away from Muddy, but I think it is hard to say who was the highlight of The Last Waltz, there were so many outstanding musicians and performances. Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Micthell and my favorite Rick Danko from The Band singing "it makes no difference" and Stage Freigth, then again there's The Weight with Levon, the Staples Singers and Rick Danko, all so great.

This is great. True blues/rock n roll, not the "bleached" racist white shit Elvis, Buddy Holly and others peddled. I believe this came out in 1955, amazing. This is the blueprint, along with the likes of Howlin' Wolf and others from this era, of the music me and many others loved from the late 60's/70's onwards. There's quite a few on here who consider some hairy guy over a decade later was the be all and end all of innovation and influence. They couldn't be more wrong. Good selection Sandra 🙂

I love Muddy Waters and saw him live several times. In my late teens friends had posters of rock bands on their wall while I had a Muddy Waters poster. But I just never cared for this song. I just feel underwhelming representation of his music. However it is usually the song that folks react to ha ha. Consider checking out from Hard Again Lp produced by legend Johnny Winter who also plays on that Lp along with Pine Top Perkins, James Cotton and others. I saw that band play Auditorium Theatre in Chicago after that LP was released. Try songs Little Girl, Bus Driver or I Want To Be Loved.

It should be pointed out that Muddy is in no way stating he can only last 5 minutes. This version was always just way too slow for me. It doesn't have the urgency of the Hard Again version.
