I put a rough country 4 inch lift kit in my 2000 WJ and one thing I made sure to do is put thread sealer on every bolt lol. Also after 500 miles they suggest you torque everything again just in case.....my only complaint is the kit didn't include any decals 😆

Consider installing the Bushwacker pocket flares. I also have 33s on my WJ and without the flares it rubbed like crazy when it flexes even a little but WITH the flares there's no problem at all. Also, be aware of your windshield washer pump. If you don't relocate it it will get torn off. Cheers bro, from another WJ lover.

Another couple of recommendations: drill out the front upper axle side bushing and bracket for a 1/2” grade 8 bolt. You might also need to relocate the windshield washer reservoir as it sits in the space in front of the driver side fender liner.

@@MuddyBeards4X4 Happy to see another WJ in my neck of the woods! I have an '04 with an IRO critical path 4" long arm up front and am about to upgrade the rear to their 4 link setup. Currently on 33s like you, but will soon be going to 35s. Just thought I'd introduce myself, and hope to see you on the trails soon! I agree with Ted, you'll definitely want to relocate your washer reservoir. I recommend ditching the WJ tank, and replacing it with a ZJ tank. It fits nicely under the hood up near the cowl on the driver's side.

Better yet, use IRO's flex-joint and purchase it in the 1/2" size. Those OEM bushings dont last long if you flex that front out.

You can use a ratchet strap to help adjust the track bar. I used a straight edge at the center of hub to the spring perch to take a measurement. The closest iwas able to adjust was to a 1/16 of an inch. I agree it is a great kit. I went with the triangulation 4 link in the rear instead if the adjustable a arm.

@trakkerp4202 5 ай бұрын
@@matthew7972 depends on how bad it is, can be as simple as sanding and using anti rust coating or complicated to the point of cutting it out and making a new panel section. Some parts even have new manufacture replacements or replacement panel sections, one such example is the spring perches that are a common area of major rust. The same goes for rocker panels.

This is exactly where I want my 04' WJ overland with the 4.7l HO to be! I'm currently on a 4" suspension system with core adjustable short arms with a rear spacer. I think I'm going to go with the IRO rock link LA front and keep the SA rear with adjustable upper arm just like your build! You have a great looking WJ now! I'm on 265's trimmed out currently, but want to run a 305/70/16 tire or possibly 35"/37" in the future when axle upgrading happens. But as yours sits, I think I'd be happy with a 33-12.00-16. I'm in Iowa, so I have to drive too, or trailer to wheeling spots. I was going to do this to my XJ, but after this video, I'm going to keep it SA front, ACOS and 33x12.50x15 tires. We also have another 04' WJ special edition 4.0l that has a 4" SA and 255 70 17's and ahe wants bigger wheel and tire combo as well. Glad I found your channel, it's exactly what I had in mind for my WJ overland and seeing it has sold me on IRO over Clayton. I'm going to have to subscribe and follow on muddy beards! My fiance has a lifted WJ and now we have almost matching ones. The XJ is the trail rig and have a challenger for the road during warm months. I've always been a rock person, but we want to get into overlanding. Eventually make it out your way to the PNW. I'd like to go back to moab with the kids and show them the slick rock along with hitting black bear pass too. I'm glad the kids enjoy it, gives us something to plan and do!

I was In until the cutting of the front control-arm mounts - ain’t no way I’m cutting into my unibody. 🚫 But I will check out this supplier, see what else they might have to offer. I’ve had my ‘01 WJ for just over a year, and still haven’t even been able to find decent TIRES to fit it, let-alone suspension and overlanding upgrades. I mistakenly thought the Jeep community was more helpful and supportive, but in a year of asking other WJ owners for supplier suggestions and product recommendations, I have never gotten one single response. Must be another sad sign of our times. Nonetheless, this video was excellent. Great job recording the video, and narrating the audio. 🏆

Thanks for your response. Short arm lifts (which IRO does offer) would be a good solution if you do not want to cut off the brackets. For most applications short arms will work just fine. The IRO ones are also adjustable.

@@MuddyBeards4X4 I don't know if you got something besides E rated tires, but I wonder if that may be part of the issue being that they're more for a full size truck. I wish that someone would make a slightly larger front brake kit for these Jeeps but they don't that I know of. The slotted discs that you put on the front of this Jeep under hard braking I have found cars a little bit of a vibration and I ended up having to install them with the slots pointed like they look like they were on their backwards. I swapped them side to side. You may find that it is a smoother brake pedal that way especially if you get under hard braking. I have a 2003 in gold, I love the color run that one you've got. I don't intend to raise mine because I drive it 99% on the street. I have no plans on off-roading it. I am thinking about putting a bit more engine in it. You will find that if you use the 2007 cylinder heads and use the 2008 cams and switch over the timers that are on your original cams. You will get probably 30 to 40 more horsepower and if you keep the smaller intake manifold that you have on your Jeep you'll probably get a bit more torque. You can get more horsepower if you go to the larger intake but I don't think it gives you more torque I think it gives you a little bit more horsepower and flattens out the torque but the should stay higher with the smaller intake. I have been able to tweak my alignment a couple of times myself whenever I've done any changes. It's actually not that hard to do, and you align it with a couple of measurements and you go out and drive it and you can figure out which parts need to be adjusted to keep your steering wheel straight and your wheels in alignment as best as possible. Go get your front end alignment for a baseline if you wish, I used to change out a lot of steering racks in the '80s when they weren't filtering them and they were chewing themselves up, I would always put in a Chrysler fuel filter into the system that would stop them from wearing out and I always did the front end alignments with a piece of string and by eyeball and the people never complained about their alignment. One person even met me about 66,000 miles later and said they've never had to get the front end line it wasn't burning off the tires it wasn't wearing the tires like it did from the factory, it was great.

Do you plan on a winch mount? If so HK Off-road makes a nice mount where you can keep the factory bumper.

Great video. I had the same lift and had terrible bumpsteer and steering geometry issues. How did yours handle once aligned? Did you have to add trackbar drop down brackets or anything later?
@MuddyBeards4X4

This drives surprisingly well for a lifted jeep. I still haven't even gotten it professionally aligned and it does pretty well. No bump steer, but does have a little sway at high speeds

is this a V8? quadradrive or quadratrack? I was interested in getting a kit from Rough Country but I read online none of the kits will work with either and I'm sad.

I got a 2001 last week, I hear my front driveline won't work with a lift. What is your experience with this on yours?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Жыл бұрын
Is it the cv style (rzeppa) of does it have a u joint? My 2001 came with the u joint so no issues. I thought only some models came with the rzeppa but i could be wrong. But yes those style front shafts don't like the angles produced by a lift kit. But you can convert or look up how others are getting around it.

@muddy beards 4x4 do you experience any death wabble with this lift? If so, what fine tuning fixed it?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Жыл бұрын
No death wobble. This kit has been solid. I would check control arm length. Make sure bolt hole to bolt hole is the same so you you know axle is straight. Then check caster and adjust upper arm if needed. Then double check trac bar bolts are tight and that the factory mounting hole isn't oblong

Are you going to swap to the akebono brakes and that's a great color combo just different enough to see two colors but still work together

Dude I should have. I am familiar with the difference because I had the wj swap on my xj and used the akebobo calipers.
