I've been in an adult education pottery class, 2 half hours a week since forever but it suits me, I learnt some good skills and now have cupboards full of mugs, bowls, little jugs and I'm trying to up the amount of clay trying to make bowls larger, more like platters for putting fruit in for example, with a lot of support. From a great tutor I threw an 8lb bird bath for the garden and I loved the whole process, however what I can't do is move the clay upwards, and previously I've just trimmed it away, where as now I want to be a better thrower and not produce heavy bottomed anything. This video and your teaching style suits me just fine, you say it as it is, no fancy tricks or slight of hand just good honest throwing technique. I'm trying to join 2 tall pieces together, so seeing this video come up for my the timing was perfect. I love your videos, so you keep throwing and I'll keep watching and learning. 😅😊

You’re an amazing teachers, I love the breakdown of each step. But the force is centrifugal, the center going out.

2:41 Thanks for giving us some extra intellectual stimulance! Usually I get som extra by converting to metrics. But now I get som more trying to tell my left hand to copy your right and vice versa. 😮 But even beside that I really love your videos!

Im just starting to try cylinders. ( In fact I just got home from practice. ) I can really relate to the issues beginners have. Thanks for putting this video up, its helping me see ways forward. ❤

You got this! Cylinders are the backbone of ALLL you will make! Just keep making them over and over!

Great video, I always look forward to them. After throwing a couple hundred pots, (still new) I started cutting them in half. I can't believe the inconsistantcy of my walls, kind of freaks me out. Thick at base, thinner at top, like a newby. I made 6 cyclinders trying to correct each time without success. Any other advice you can give?

Thanks for a great video. It was helpful to see how you trimmed the cylinder. I'm learning in a community studio space and we don't use bats because there is not enough shelf space for drying. This means we have to lift the wet pot off the wheel, and it is very hard to do without screwing up the pot. Any chance you could do a video on how best to do this?
@MudgirlPottery Жыл бұрын
So if you get in there GOOD with the wood tool, you will trim off the wetter clay at the bottom. Exposing the drier clay in the base. I try to not touch the side. Or I would invest 4 or 5 bats, (if they gave bat pins or buy bat pins too) bring them with you. Throw on them while you are there. Let sit for a bit before you leave AFTER you clean up, they should have set up enough to try to remove them! Worth the money kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaDOk6hse52SnpI

Mudgirl---Haven't watched your videos enough to know---but I sure hope you've told your viewers that you're LEFT-HANDED. This info will certainly be confusing for a RIGHT-HANDED beginner.
@MudgirlPottery Жыл бұрын
I’m not left handed. Some of my videos are in selfie which may have switched. But most are the correct view. I’ll take a look and this one and let ya know. I pull walls in the right side and open with my right thumb and hand. Hope that helps to let you know if this is reversed or not
