I wish to salute Mudhra(don't you think since it is a Sanskrit word it ought to be spelt the correct way : Mudra ? Of course, in Tamil Nadu 'Vidya' is 'Vidhya'; so 'Mudra' is 'Mudhra'; well that is ok; I am an old man; just a grumpy punctilious when it comes to correct spelling; pardon me)man for sponsoring this young and upcoming IITian Venkatanagarajan who is rising up so fast that I pray he will strive to be an avatar of MDR who performed for his own satisfction with the SURRENDER-TO-PERFECTION style. I from the distant village of River Islands, California in the US have been following Sri Venkatanagarajan for a year. Nurtured by that gifted Trichy vidushi with a bottomless mind that carries scores of rare songs Venkatanagarajan comes with rare songs to our delight. Tonight he went further : With the ghanaragapanchaka -- Gowla--Nata--Varali--Arabhi--Shri -- songs at the first half of the kutcheri this young man raised his own standards about a profound kutcheri paddhati that is the envy of the Carnatic music kingdom. Gowla's Gananatha nin is a rare song; Varali's "Shuddha nirvikara" is rare indeed and so is the vaggeyakara Achyutadasar. Good for the Srirangam vidwan. Shri's Karunajuduninnunammina is one of the sweetest in that raga. Late Sri TRS thrived in it. The singer follows the gambhira ghanaragapanchaka with the majestic Saveri and "Shri Rajagopala bala" !!! Fantastic. Viruttam with Natakuranji, Purvikalyani and Komalangi (rare raga for sure) followed by a lovely song by MMDandapani Desikar(a guru of the late Neyyattinkara Shri Mohanachandran, a dear friend; I miss him) ... and then as an icing on a cake like conclusionary song by my native erstwhile kingdom of Travnacore's Maharaja Swathi Thirunal's "Gopala bhaktim me dehi Gopikaramanaa !!! in Bhageshwari. TKGovindarao saar's book lists this song as to be sung in Bilahari. I think the song sounds so beautiful and mellifluous in Bhageshwari. I applaud the young man for this flawless kutcheri which I think is the best by him -- so far. May he take good care of his lean body by never adding ugly body fat on to it; by eating properly and excercising may he live to be 100 as he has to sing all sorts of rare songs for us rasikas far and wide on this one planet of ours. I loved the pakkom -- all of them new to me. Even the morsing did his best to make sure this kutcheri was going to be 100% successful. Mudhra's Sdhri Bhaskar has every right to feel proud of himself for sponsoring this great recital as a tonic for suffering people in this time of horrific pandemic. You are on the upswing; with no gimmicks of computer screen, iPhone monitor, notebook etc as some one would clevely hide behind a shruti box conveniently placed in front you are I mean it on your way to reach the level of total dedication charted by my man MDR. I am just an average rasika with not much scientific knowledge of our music. So, I am not in the business of blessing any artiste. That must be done by others. You already have your great guruji's ongoing blessings.That's enough. What you need is good audience that inspires you. That Trichy Sri Murali wishes you the very best all the time. My only wish is to see you in the company of my dear friend Trichur Sri Chittazhi(C is for his Kerala Tharavadu name)Narendran and the violinist Shreta Devnath. I wish to see you with Sri Sriram Parasuram too. No matter who your accompanists are I will watch you from afar here in Central Valley Calif. Post pandemic when you tour California I will be right there in the audience. Though 75 I enjoy driving all over; I have a brand new Cadillac SUVfor my 75th birthday gift from my wife and two chlidren; I will drive you anywhere you wish to go. Great, great concert. Sri VenkataNagarajan never disappoints. The first 5 krithis are Pancharatna ragams. Order is different Gaulai before Nattai. Also Varali before Aarabi. Wonderful voice. Enjoyed the concert very much.
