Took a trip to the Gulf Coast and New Orleans about a year after Hurricane Katrina. The things we found strolling the beach all spoke of the devastation still washing ashore in little bits and pieces. This activity reminds me of that.

Hi Nicola! I'm pretty sure that the "Clock Hand" @ 16.28 on your vid' is in fact from some sort of temperature gauge. The wire on the rear end is the giveaway. It would have been in the form of a coil of heat sensitive wire that would expand and contract with rising and falling temp', pushing and pulling the hand around a scaled dial. Love the Vid's x

I like your carefree dialogue on your videos. My metal detecting exploits of late seem to be full of coincidences. When you read out what was on the medal, I couldn't believe it. About 20 years ago I was detecting on a beach in Cornwall when I found a small piece of pot. There is a banner on the piece of pot which reads in capital letters " BAND OF HOPE ". I found it quite ironic at the time because I was looking for lost rings on the beach. This piece of pot has become my lucky talisman. I keep it in my finds tin every time I go metal detecting. Happy fossicking.

Every video of yours I watch I find myself wishing I could be there to go beach combing, what you call "Mudlarking." I like finding things too however... When I'm watching as you dig up and uncover your findings, I am looking at everything else. Specifically, I am looking at the rocks. There are so many colorful rocks along the banks of "The Thames River" where you do your mudlarking. I am seeing all sorts of jaspers, picture jaspers and volcanic and quartz agates. I am seeing a wide assortment of different colored stones, including the occasional broken piece of smoky quartz. I'm "a rockhound" after a fashion. I keep thinking about what I'd like to do if I could ever get my hands on some of those rocks from along the Thames. Many of them, but not all the ones I have seen are what's considered "gem quality stones." But the jaspers, picture jaspers and volcanic stone agates with the numerous quartz agate that I've observed in your video? They would make some fantastic jewelry. And there are so many along the river's edge when you're out and about mudlarking. We have some here in Alaska too, but not the wide variety of colors as what I see in your video footage. I wish I could afford to come there and do a rockhound expedition one time. Even the red terra-cotta pottery fragments could be ground, cut and shaped into some nice jewelry pieces and so can the pottery fragments.

Thank you. It's funny as I don't pay attention to the rocks but maybe I should. You've inspired me to pay more attention to them.
@alaskanfrogman
@alaskanfrogman 5 жыл бұрын
Look at the dark brown to blackish colored rocks. Some will have a reddish gray hue on the outside. You will see that some of them are actually translucent to semi translucent. Those are volcanic agates. There are a variety of brown, reddish and yellow stones that are also semi translucent as well. Those are a type of agate. Some may actually be picture jasper. Then there are some of the bright red stones. They are usually very hard. Those are red jasper. Some of the stones have an almost faceted look and have a smoky gray to black. coloration. I haven't actually seen a lot, but those are smoky quartz pieces. The Thames Riverbank is rich with such stones. As a rockhound enthusiast I could not help but see them in your videos as you zeroed in on some of your finds. I found myself staring at the rocks and not at your find until you moved the camera. I was wishing I could be there gathering some of those beautiful rocks.@@nicolawhitemudlark I have so many hobbies, including rockhounding. I own a cabbing machine that I use to cut rocks and polish them into cabochons for making jewelry. I'll email a few pictures of a few of my cabbies soon. So, when will you be back home from the US? Email and let me know. Safe journey and take good care always.

Just subscribed amazing video find and impressive website. This video has brought back memories of being an early teenager living in Richmond Surrey when the Thames had an annual draw out at how small the thames can be at low tide. Always finding clay pipe bowls, there everywhere. I wonder if you have a way of moulding your art work into coffee tables or chairs, perhaps having a cartoon created as a coffee table.

Cartridge around min 21 is almost surely a .38 cal revolver round. And it is in fact live. The primer was struck but the bullet is still in place so it's not been fired. Probably not an imminent danger but wanted to point out it's not inert....theoretically could could contain propellant capable of combustion.

Hi Nicola! I always try and find the things you do when still taking a shot of the general area, asking us if we see it. While great fun, I find I get frustrated because I don't have the Mudlarkers eye down, and can't check out what it might be!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!! LOL This holds true for when I think I see something I think you might have missed and can't say, " Hey, what's that, that white thing there right under the pipe bowl you just picked up.", " Kind of looks like a little white bottle with a rounded top and small dark stripes going around it?" (it's at 9:17) has a orangish rock on it? AAAAAHHHHH!!!! WHAT WAS IT??? I would give just about anything to Mudlarkers the Thames Foreshore! except my eyes. Not the eyes! I have dug "TREASURE" all my life. It is the single most enjoyable thing I've ever done. I've even passed the "Torch of Treasure Hunting" to my son and a few worthy friends. The pleasure of watching them find their first real good find, and knowing their hooked, well it's feels amazing. I can't really get out there anymore and the closest thing to being there is watching your videos. Chill Bills, Aqua Chiggers, and so many others. They quell the cravings. A bit anyway! Heartfelt thanks! Pass the message along! 👁❤U all! Miss Darla K.

Darla Wolz hi Darla. So great to know you really get involved in the search. I'm delighted you enjoy. I can imagine it is a little frustrating though when you spot something! Imagine if I missed a gold coin or something... :)

nicola white mudlark - Tideline Art ~ EXACTLY! Do you have a P.O. Box? I'd like to send you a few items to incorporate into your Art Creations. They mostly come from all along the Napa River. Others were gleaned from a dump that closed in 1936 on Coombsville Rd. next to the cemetery. It's to the east of the property line. It was a quarried section of land that the kids going to Silverado Jr. High would take or they would have to go all the way down to a 5 way intersection to then turn and switchback into the area called Alta Heights. If you Google Earth Napa, with street view, you can check it out. I grew up there and have inspected just about every inch of the county and beyond. Sorry this is so long! I just love this hobby and I don't get out much anymore! heeheehee!😜 Thanks for replying! CHEERS!
