I do actually like the fact that mudrunner does lack those fine tuning setting (tire pressue, suspension settings, ride height and so on) for the fact that it does make mudrunner a very accessible "off road sim". Its a very good game to just sit down and play without the need to first check dozens of forums to research what might be the ideal setups for whatever given circumstances. I can only speak for myself but Muddrunner definitly hit a very nice sweetspot between realism and beginner friendlyness. Otherwise it might have been toooo much of a nieche game.

It is weird to see this graded the same as a racing sim, but I think you did a good job pointing out that this is an off-roading Russian Logging game and not a racing sim. I have been playing Spintires since 2015, and as a fan of the original and spinoffs I love seeing more publicity for the series! I recommend this (and the original if it is on sale) if you like 1) Giant cold-war era Russian trucks that can literally drive through rivers 2) Great mud deformation physics and 3) beautiful forest scenery! Seriously look up some videos of these trucks in real life, they would rather drive through a river than use the logging roads sometimes lol.

Just to clarify, @8:30 the subtitle says the diff lock left and right wheels. In offroading (and 4WD race cars as well I presume?) the diff between the front and rear axles is just as important. Mudrunner and newer Snowrunner locks/unlocks ALL diffs (front, rear, mid) at once so no possibility (without mods at least) to select what diff to lock/unlock) Good video! I like it when the KZbinr doesn't scream or act over-enthusiastic but instead delivers a clear calm opinion 👍👍👍

I like how you can’t setup in muddrunner. It forces you to deal with what you have and problem solve methodically. Snowrunner with full upgrades is just wayy too easy terrain wise. The rocks in imandra are just artificial roll difficulty imo that is annoying. I hope this changes with Canada though.
@poodn45593 жыл бұрын
A lot of the early maps are really easy. I will say, trying to do anything with that GMC semi they give you before you find the 4x4 upgrade gets annoying quick, though.

Lack of setups for cars is completely normal - in reality, serious offroad upgrades are rare on those cars, and most of the situations can be solved with basic car. Also, in reality, most of upgrades on those cars include transferring into mobile house, replacing certain parts with more applicable (like replacing axles and differential with military type which is much more reliable), or solving issues with basic car. For example, not all real cars include diff block, which is absolutely necessary for offroading.
@poodn45593 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see you do Snowrunner, too. If only because the tyre physics sometimes bugs out when sliding and you get grip randomly (I've only seen it happen on tarmac/concrete) As for Mudrunner, I'm glad you can't change the setup, as it makes you really think if YOU as a DRIVER will be able to make the TRUCK go through the trail

I just wish there's more of that hillclimb. I want a purely hillclimb game with 4x4s. Give us a variety of jeeps/pickup trucks/atvs, and hill locations (real and made up) with several climbing paths for each hill. Kinda like in BeamNG.

I really like Mudrunner. While Snowrunner is prettier and undoubtedly has more variety in terms of mission types and cargoes I feel like it actually regressed in a lot of ways. The physics is actually better in the older game if anything - I especially hate the weird arcade NOS boost you get on some trucks in high gear in Snowrunner (they really should fix their transmission physics...). And Mudrunner's hardcore mode is a must for those who want more challenge from the game. The lack of instant teleportation (called the recover feature) in Mudrunner hardcore really improves the immersion and challenge imo. If I could take the best of both games and combine them then that would be my perfect offroad trucking game.

Loved the game, and the video:) 5:17 I got completely stuck uphill with a loaded truck. I went "unload logs" and then I was able to slowly drive out of it. So I would say there is a difference in weight, especially in uphill performance.

@MisuneDate3 жыл бұрын
The point that viper said, but not much deeply... The grip in solid terrains are "strange" is way too much slipery making "rock crawling" feel a little disaponting, for a off road game. Some times climbing a hill with no mud feels equaly slipery too.

hey viper, i was wondering if you have the same feeling about this game. i like everything, but there is one thing that bothers me, and its the engine simulations. i feel like engine torque and power delivery aren't well simulated, don't you feel the same? like, the engine is about to stall in first gear, but you throw second gear and it suddenly has more power than before. its the only thing i don't feel realistic about this game, and really throws me back bc i think it's fundamental for offroading with clutch and manual gearbox. Beamng lacks in terrain deformation but engines an it's power delivery plus forced induction are simulated astonishingly awesome, and it gives a better feel on hill climbing/rock crawling. i'm interested in your opinion as i didn't see it on the video!
@StellarGale3 жыл бұрын
idk from my experience it sometimes loaded trucks have better grip due to weight but have noticeably more inertia and easier to flip. And yes, full fuel tanker is way heavier than empty one.

Im confused, there are two companies that release that game, mudrunner and Spintires?
@chrono_tigger3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is a bunch of legal issues with the property. In short, Spintires was made by a single guy as a tech demo, and Oovee offered to fund him so he could make it into a game they would publish. The original Developer got mad when Oovee and Saber took his game without permission and modified/added to it to make Mudrunners, leading to a lawsuit and rebranding of games. Now Spintires is still technically owned by Oovee, but under the control of the dev, while Mudrunners was eventually expanded with Snowrunners that made it its own series with the help of Saber. Eventually the guy cooled down and the original dev went back and updated Spintires with new DLC's, of which Chernobyl is fantastic! Unfortunately it has disappeared from Steam with no response from Oovee.
