This song is apparently about Chad's grandmother growing old and his whole family forgot about her except him. Apparently she drove him to band practices and he experienced a lot of frustration and anger when she died. Pretty heavy.

This song is sung in the perspective of Chad's grandmother, who after bejng diagnosed with terminal lung cancer was neglected by all of her loved ones except Chad. He wrote this song out of the empathy he felt for her after having long conversations at her bedside. Haunted by her memories of better days long since passed, and embroiled in the hatred of the current state of her failing body, all she wanted in the end was the sweet release of death.

People are constantly saying "beast of a bass player..." but the thing is they as a whole is what makes them great. The drumming is also anything but easy, casual, simple. The guitarist takes the role of filler and he does is so in a subtle way but perfectly that it blends with the whole sonic picture. And don't get me started on the vocals raw off-the-chain emotional delivery on the whole album... It's not the bassist that makes this band so great but their unity
@popplug33842 жыл бұрын
That's all true, the "beast of a bass player" comments are more about bass in the context of metal as a whole. Usually the bass is just a lower octave of the main guitar riff and Ryan flipped that on its head. I agree with you Mudvayne is about the unity of this unique powerful sound.
@benbray4982 Жыл бұрын
The core of the bands sound is the bass and drums though. The way they tie together is absurd. Both huge talents who were lucky to be in the same band. Ryan is the stand out.. his bass is absolutely relentless. The drumming was the best of its time and hugely underrated. For me it's between those two, and dime and vinnie for the ultimate duo of musicians in a band. It's absolutely bizarre that pattern and mudvayne bastardised itself together and became so... disappointing.
@TanielDillman-z1j2 ай бұрын

With Mudvayne he sounds like a severe schizophrenic that escaped from a psychiatric state hospital and decided I'm gonna join a metal band and be their singer (it really fits their early image). On another note if Rob Zombie ever does a House Of A 1000 Corpses sequal again he definetly needs to cast Chad. He fits right in.

Upon first observation it feels like a lot of other Nu-Metal but the song has so much freaking going on it, it's insane. The musicianship of this song, changing tempo, time signatures, keys, tones, moods... everything you need to make a song stand out in a sea of mediocre nu-metal, but it never got its huge due. My fave part of the song is the chorus bass lines that use an arpeggio scheme to give a tonal lift to a dark and angry sad song.

Once a masterpiece is created and displayed no other piece of art can compare. So honestly Mudvayne moving on to a different approach with the same aggressive ear deafening instrumentals and beautifully heart stabbing words spit, spoken, and sang and well wrote and pulled together can be just as masterful as L.D. 50 but will never add up to the masterpiece that is L.D.50.
