This song is apparently about Chad's grandmother growing old and his whole family forgot about her except him. Apparently she drove him to band practices and he experienced a lot of frustration and anger when she died. Pretty heavy.

This song is sung in the perspective of Chad's grandmother, who after bejng diagnosed with terminal lung cancer was neglected by all of her loved ones except Chad. He wrote this song out of the empathy he felt for her after having long conversations at her bedside. Haunted by her memories of better days long since passed, and embroiled in the hatred of the current state of her failing body, all she wanted in the end was the sweet release of death.

People are constantly saying "beast of a bass player..." but the thing is they as a whole is what makes them great. The drumming is also anything but easy, casual, simple. The guitarist takes the role of filler and he does is so in a subtle way but perfectly that it blends with the whole sonic picture. And don't get me started on the vocals raw off-the-chain emotional delivery on the whole album... It's not the bassist that makes this band so great but their unity
@popplug3384
@popplug3384 2 жыл бұрын
That's all true, the "beast of a bass player" comments are more about bass in the context of metal as a whole. Usually the bass is just a lower octave of the main guitar riff and Ryan flipped that on its head. I agree with you Mudvayne is about the unity of this unique powerful sound.
@benbray4982
@benbray4982 Жыл бұрын
The core of the bands sound is the bass and drums though. The way they tie together is absurd. Both huge talents who were lucky to be in the same band. Ryan is the stand out.. his bass is absolutely relentless. The drumming was the best of its time and hugely underrated. For me it's between those two, and dime and vinnie for the ultimate duo of musicians in a band. It's absolutely bizarre that pattern and mudvayne bastardised itself together and became so... disappointing.

The bass slowly creeps out of the mix. If the musicality and lyricism on TEOATTC wasn't so good on most songs, it would be a crap album because ryan isn't loud enough. Dude, I've been prayin for that since that album dropped, ever since LD50 it's been this bizarre progressively worse sellout routine to the mainstream, fingers crossed, they never captured that lightning in a bottle since in my opinion...although they had the formula right in front of them, just rinse and repeat, I think ditching the original image may have had something to do with it, just a theory

Chad is an enigma to me. With Hell Yeah he has a straight to the point Sully Erna-esque agressive vocal style. With Mudvayne he sounds like a severe schizophrenic that escaped from a psychiatric state hospital and decided I'm gonna join a metal band and be their singer (it really fits their early image). On another note if Rob Zombie ever does a House Of A 1000 Corpses sequal again he definetly needs to cast Chad. He fits right in.

Upon first observation it feels like a lot of other Nu-Metal but the song has so much freaking going on it, it's insane. The musicianship of this song, changing tempo, time signatures, keys, tones, moods... everything you need to make a song stand out in a sea of mediocre nu-metal, but it never got its huge due. My fave part of the song is the chorus bass lines that use an arpeggio scheme to give a tonal lift to a dark and angry sad song.

Once a masterpiece is created and displayed no other piece of art can compare. So honestly Mudvayne moving on to a different approach with the same aggressive ear deafening instrumentals and beautifully heart stabbing words spit, spoken, and sang and well wrote and pulled together can be just as masterful as L.D. 50 but will never add up to the masterpiece that is L.D.50.

Cold seems crippling Lame meander through corridors Aroma's thick with age Mark off the day Reflections of my life are fading, pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in, feeble frail and rotting Descending I'm lost in a structure that's collapsing Don't want it Cast into, maker take the body Don't want it, it wants me Past has found its place Salvation is no more Will God accept my peace Bleached will pardon me Reflections of my life are fading, pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in, feeble frail and rotting descending I'm lost in a structure that's collapsing Don't want it Cast into, maker take the body Don't want it, it wants me I just want to run around Fly kites, wrestle, jump and play Swim through waves that crash to shore Memories in me Cocooned in misery I'm sick and tired Of embracing reflections of past time Receive me or cast me away God please take me away Resistance Futile Suicidal ideas I will crucify my own being Satisfy selfish needs, fuck the deities Justify my own right to what's waiting for me On the other side of me The time has come Lock and load I'm coming I'm coming I'm coming I'm coming home Pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in Pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in Pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in, feeble frail and rotting Descending I'm lost in a structure that's collapsing Descending Don't want it, maker take the body Don't want it, don't want in Pull me out of body Don't want it, don't want in, feeble frail and rotting Descending I'm lost in a structure that's collapsing Descending Don't want it, maker take the body Don't want it, it wants me I just want to run around Fly kites, wrestle, jump and play Swim through waves that crash to shore Memories in me Cocooned in misery The darkness overcomes Soul soars to the other plain Existence past the door I sail through purgatory's bay I asked a god for poison cradle me Sown to my dreams, souls searching Death blossoms where clouds lie over me Held in God's hands, death blooming Dark for fear of failure An inner gloom as wide as an eye and fermenting Roiling hate Deathgrip in my veins Unveiling rancid petals Flowering forth foul nectar The space between a blink and a tear Death blooms

To the singer..... Been playing guitar and singing since 92' . This piece is PURE ART ; Thank you so much ... Brings crazy tears to my eyes every time since I figured out the lyrics and what it's about...... We have all been there but you sir , put it into words . Thank you from the bottom of my tortured soul .

We didn’t even have a name for this style of music back then. People often called this “math metal” this level of technicality in metal was unheard of. And the time signatures we’re just absolutely unheard of at this point

Great lyrics that describe aging so well: "Feeble frail and rotting descending I'm lost in A structure that's collapsing" The part at 2:35 is so f@cking intense, awesome.
