They did not retcon at all! This is the prequel to the “live action” version. & in that version it’s implied that Mufasa is adopted. Go watch the scene in the beginning of that movie & you can clearly see them emoting in this film when you see them smiling & looking shocked.

If you call what is in this trailer emoting, we clearly have different definitions lol. The original was essentially a shot for shot remake of the animated film and the only reason this movie can exist with this story is by them retconning the relationship between Mufasa and Scar. Even as a prequel to the live-action version, it doesn't look very good but to each their own! Glad you're looking forward to it 😀
