The false main character of the film is Nala and Simba’s daughter Kiara (played by Blue Ivy Carter). Simba will be telling his daughter the story of Mufasa and how he became a great leader. So in a sense it is a sequel and prequel at the same time.

Looks way better than the 2019 remake, given the environments seem more lively, the color grading and cinematography looks more properly lit, the animals can express proper emotions this time, and the unexpected X factor of Lin Manuel Miranda doing the original songs for the movie, too. Looks like Barry Jenkins is gonna make a breakout hit of this movie that shouldn’t be underestimated.

For what it's worth, there is an episode or two in _The Lion Guard_ (a recent (2016-2019) Disney Jr. sequel series to the original film) where they went to a snowy area outside of the Pride Lands. That series was also technically canon to the rest of the cartoon universe and added a lot of backstory that would probably hamper a story like _Mufasa_ being told within its continuity, so as much as I'd have preferred if this was 2D animated, that's probably not happening. That said, this actually has some promise! I was very lukewarm on the 2019 take; I didn't hate it but I wouldn't put it any higher than a 6/10 and there were some glaring weaknesses across the board. This one is at least an original story with visible facial expressions on the lion characters and a solid cast and crew, so I'm willing to give it a chance.

I think the lion cubs are Kiara and Kovu! And maybe Rafiki is telling them the story about Mufasa and Scar!? .. Have to watch the sequel again, it`s been a long time. Greetings from Germany❤

Yeah it’s got me intrigued. If it had the same expressions from 2019 TLK I’d have said nope but this looks much better. And Lin Manuel Miranda is doing the music this thing could be big. There were rumors that this would be structured like The Godfather part 2.

The creative talent behind this film is promising. I could easily fall in the trap of resisting against revisiting legacy franchises - since there are clear examples such as House of the Dragon, Andor, and X-Men First Class where that rising concern can be put to rest. Sure, we have to see the film first before claiming it's more likely to be a success than a milked franchise failure, but I'm optimistic due to these examples and the creative talent behind it. You never acknowledge a great story until you experience it. I'll be on the lookout for this one.

The animation didn’t look better to me. It looked more cgi and less realism. I liked the lion king remake but looks like I’m in the minority with all this. I’ll probably end up seeing it anyway. Wish we could of heard new songs instead of the old songs.
