@ I’m not kidding. He falls in love with Sarabi after a day or so knowing her. Mufasa clearly wanted taka and Sarabi to get together and he was actually helping taka impress her. Then taka finds out that Sarabi and mufasa are talking to each other and mufassa admits he lied about taka rescuing her from an elephant stampede when it was actually him. He gets very angry and thinks mufasa “betrayed him” for telling her the truth basically. Literally 2 seconds later his entire personality changes and taka goes into a massive Simp rage and falls off a snowy mountain and meets Kiros. Taka immediately decides he wants to help the white lions kill mufasa and lead them to MILELE. There was never even any connection between Sarabi and taka he literally talks to her a couple times and we are suspose to believe he is madly in love with this lioness who he’s only knows a day or so? Makes no sense. I always thought of Sarabi and mufasa and taka being childhood friends and taka loved her since they were kids. That would have made more sense and imagine loving a girl your entire life and then your brother takes her from you! That’s what they should have done!

And with Simba's father adopted into Scar's family, and a new white lion villain, the possibility of Nala's father being someone different is even higher.

I have a hot take. Since they were so intense in that first TLK remake of making everything realistic, they should have fully committed to the bit and made it a mocumentry. Have the story and the visuals be EXACTLY the same but instead of the animals talking have some British guy narrate it, telling the whole Lion King story as if it were a nature documentary. I think that would have actually been fun and interesting an ACTUALLY different take on it instead of just running the visuals through a realistic filter.

As soon as I read the basic plot synopsis, I was immediately turned off. In making Scar sympathetic and the original heir to the throne, you now see Mufasa as a usurper and find it not all that unjustified that he was later replaced by Scar. This is grey and grey morality at its best, which by itself can produce some truly interesting stories not unlike those originally written by Shakespeare himself. The original Hamlet even has it so when Hamlet's uncle kills his brother for the throne, he actually turns out to be a far better ruler and protector of his nation than Hamlet's father ever was. However, both of the original Lion Kings are written with Black and white morality, with Scar unjustly killing his wise older brother to take what isn't his and attempting to do the same to his nephew who is innocent in all of this, and it worked just fine. But you ask people to sympathize with someone who grows up to murder, abuse, and gaslight in his life, you end up taking the focus off the story and onto your own failures in judgement and social understanding.

villainous as her mother people of read stories where the protagonist and the villain are both rotten people but never mind they need to make her sympathetic so the audience would feel for her because if they made her just as bad as her mother she we're getting no sympathy which blows up in their face because as a lot of people pointed out it doesn't change the fact this is the woman who kidnapped a bunch of puppies including the puppies belonging to her subordinate simply despite said subordinate for daring to stand up to her and said subordinates husband for encouraging her to do so because she has issues hearing the word no I mean it was obvious next to punishing Anita for not taking it up the ass as usual Roger had obviously from the start never liked her and did his best to try to remain civil around her even when she kept Crossing Lines because she still was an associate of his wife but when the two ended up fighting it always ended up being that Roger finally lost his cool with her because she stepped on way too much for even the most polite gentleman to still keep their cool and not tell her how it is And then let's not even get into Maleficent that started this garbage which changed from what led to her becoming the Mistress of all evil into oh she was betrayed by a boy and of course we had to turn the king a man who would obviously do everything he can to save his daughter from a curse that was given to her as a baby simply because he chose to slight her even though he and her both knew she wouldn't come to the christening and that this was all just ceremony on her end to justify ruining a good celebration and then everything she did in that movie The Original that is was simply because she knew she'd look like a punk if she didn't make certain it went through she made a big display of causing trouble publicly dear God what did they do to the other fairies they have to make them super incompetent just to make Maleficent look better it's very telling when they had that huge crossover game back on the Wii that they showed a real big difference between Angelina Jolie's Maleficent and the actual Maleficent because even they acknowledge they screwed her character over I start to wonder if it may have been Angelina Jolie who pushed for those changes because she knew she was playing a story about a villainess and even if they wanted to play her perspective wasn't a large amount of Sleeping Beauty her perspective anyway I mean she got as much equal Showtime as we watched her manipulations once she came back into the picture and Lucas was never escaping her grasp without the fairies interference it was even obvious to him that he knew someone was watching his back during the escape and especially during the final confrontation even if he didn't see the fairies he knew they might have been the ones looking out for him well not them specifically but he knew someone was trying to help him reunite with the princess especially right when he noticed his sword had become magically Enchanted enough they took a lucky guess that it would Pierce Maleficent dragon form But then these live actions were likely an attempt again to get rid of the animation studio because you all remember when they decided to move 3D and that didn't work out too well except with Pixar making it work, that they brought Animation back and it looks like they once again were trying to get around the same damn thing created the problem fixed it by putting back what they broke and then breaking it again because they thought they were sneaky and it didn't end well and continues to not end well maybe it would have been better to eat that extra cost brother and I'm sure they're taking advantage of tax laws like in the producers but I have to wonder how long you'll be able to take advantage of stuff like that before eventually even the government's like yeah we know you're taking advantage of these tax laws we're now blocking them as we can't really afford to look out for you anymore especially when they're unable to continue the pay the bribes😂

Besides being cliche and contradictory to the theme of birthright/etc. in the original LK lore, having Scar be his adopted brother is a really big plot to execute in that amount of time and with that sort of low level writing. In the original, they knew the audience well enough to keep is simple. Scar is his brother. Boom. Built in reason why Mufasa tolerates him, assumed childhood past, we all have that one sibling, etc. Relationship makes sense. Scar is the jealous, scheming, more manipulative/intelligent younger bro. The emotional relationship doesn't need a ton of exposition because it's an easy setup and Mufasa's shock at Scar's betrayal feels plausible. Now look at this plot where they're strangers. The writers have to take these two characters from strangers, to friends, to brothers, to having some kind of conflict, to enemies by the end of a 2 hour children's film. That's so much harder to develop in a believable manner without these plot beats feeling forced. If they'd worked with what they already had, set them up as a tragic Anna/Elsa type, this movie could've been much better than incel Scar. :\ It's like they aren't sure what kinda story they wanna tell with these stupid fanfic-ish plots. Even if they wanted to force this sad orphans plot out of nowhere (the whole thing is so strange as it makes the ancient feeling of Pride Rock, the great kings, etc. feel... well, actually very new and inconsequential. This rock popped outta nowhere and so did Mufasa sooo...), they could have used Scar coming from nothing, having his pride killed, and struggling to survive as motivation to become cold and conniving. It would've still been stupid, but better than him basically just being every guy on reddit. Scar deserved so much better. Maybe the film was the real Taka...

I have watched it, and funny enough, a lot of the criticisms couldve been easily fixed with the set up they made in there! What I mean, have Taka be the insecure lion who slowly is consumed into becoming the bad guy, and knows how to be conniving from young age, too. Specifically, have him be happy that he got Mufasa as a brother cause he thought the latter was just as insecure as him, only to find that he was way more charismatic than he thought. And maybe, have him become a full blown villain not simply because of Mufasa turning him into a simp, but have it be the build up from constant reminding over how pitiful he actually is, when he tries to be just like Mufasa (him saving his mother, saving them a few times, and Sarabi essentially seeing through his attempts at flirting.) As for his conniving, they couldve put elements that shows he knows how to manipulate people really easily, but only does so when he wants an easy way out, which as time goes one, he does more and more. Maybe, when in the end, instead of simply betraying everyone, he actually double crosses Kiros too, and that gets him a scar for it. Furthermore, nobody really appreciates what he did as much as he wanted them and have everybody choose to banish him, except for Mufasa, who still sees him as a brother (instead of going "Ill keep you around, but you are not my brother!"). Also, have Scar take on the moniker himself, rather than be called like that by Mufasa, because he wanted to stop being the "lame, pathetic Taka." Thats my attempt to fix the movie. Then again, I know that maybe they should've redone it from the start.

The original plot in the comic series that was released soon after the original movie had a basic sibling rivalry plot. Mufasa was the favoured stronger older brother and Taka was the weaker brother who felt jealous of his brother's accomplishments and favoured place in the family. The resentment built over time and led to his full blown villainy in the first movie. Couldn't have been a simpler setup, would have also had a lot of impact if done well.

What's really funny is that I didn't even know Mufasa was really even out until the Sonic 3 vs Mufasa memes. Also I'm really glad Sonic 3 beat it in the box office. I have yet to see it, that'll probably be a tomorrow thing since the theaters have a discount day tomorrow. But I'm taking my brothers and I to see Sonic 3. We're all Sonic fans here, haha!

@dalriada7554 No, that’s not what it means. The “Ken Treatment” means when the writers want a character to look villainous yet ironically have the character come across as sympathetic. With the titular example being Ken from the 2023 film “Barbie” and a more recent example being Scar from the 2024 prequel “Mufasa”.

Back in 2010 when Alice in (the Tim Burton version) Wonderland came out. I didn’t know what to think of it. To the point of the fact that I don’t know if I hated it or kinda liked it. However, one thing I do hate one thing about that movie. It started a specific trend for modern Disney that lasted way longer. Then it had any right to last. Nearly every single live action/“live action” remake of their animated films. Was either bad or painfully mediocre. To the point where I refused to see most of these in theaters. I only saw a few of them. Trying to give them a chance. Yet when I saw The Beauty and The Beast remake. I realized that these movies were terrible remakes of good movies. That only came into existence. Because people constantly kept giving Disney too much money and allowing them. To make these pointless remakes over and over again.

I remember leaving the theater so pissed off, it put me off of all live action 'remake' movies since, and when I saw this one in production, I promised myself I would never watch it. I am glad I made the right call. So ready for Disney to change tracks.

Them making Mufasa and Scar not related by blood honestly seems like an over-correction before they make a live action Lion king 2, as Kiara's love interest is Scar's son (Simba's cousin). I know that even in that movie, they try real hard to reassure the viewer that Kovu is not biologically Scar's, but it doesn't make much sense that his mother mated with another male if she was obsessively in love with Scar, and her son looks very much like Scar too.

I always saw Scar and Zira as more of a Voldemort/Bellatrix thing (if you exclude Cursed Child). That is, Zira being madly obsessed with Scar, but Scar not seeing her as anything more than a minion.

In the original Lion king (although cut from the movie), Scar was in love with Nala (as creepy as that is). With the addition of Lion King 2, and the removal of Scar's interest in Nala, I do prefer him with Zira as a crazy power-couple.

The one thing they had to do was make an origin story that naturally lead to the present. Instead they made something “interesting” up and pretended that’s what was always implied in the first story (in this case the “live action” lion king). They made Mufasa and underdog story when it was never deeper than “yo I’m the king but the king has responsibilities and lives like everyone else”(the circle of life); and Scar was never supposed to be anything more than “grr I wish I were the king instead”, but he’s evil because his first crush got taken. Also doesn’t help throughout the movie, we cut to Timon and pumba interjecting all the time. It breaks the flow, and works better in episodes usually because to fit in a usual 24 minute runtime, the clips in the story time are shorter, and you never forget it’s a flashback/story. A movie let’s scenes run on long enough that what your seeing can “become the episode’s plot”, like the difference between an episode dedicated to telling a/multiple stories compared to an episode that takes place in the past or elsewhere. Cutting away and back for even just like 5 minutes can kill the momentum of a scene, depending on what it is.
