Another great discussion, Mufti! I wish there were more Muslim scholars like you who actually think and do not just parrot old dogma. I encourage you to write a book where you state in general terms how Hadith need to be reanalyzed, and then follow it up with a new compilation that can be used by Muslims as a replacement for the old medieval texts. This would be, your life’s work…

Abu Layth i feel u r among those modern scholars who possesses remarkable knowledge of Q, hadith n fiq along with critical thinking n wisdom mashalla. But i have stop writing mufti with ur name as i feel how much qualified a person may be he has not the divine authority to sanction fatwa or certify that this is the ultimate divine ruling for anyone. Traditionally cleric were authorised this power n monarch used them n today even in pakistan n other muslim states visionless clerics like Taqi usmani r authorized to give verdicts which affect personal lives. Hopefully u can understand n not mind calling u Abu layth with great respect. Fully agree with ur critical analysis of this hadith which has open door to victimise degrade n deprived more than half population of mankind (this is one english word which address not men as it look but encompasses both genders. In Q. as well some words represent both genders). Such misleading narrations attributed to Prophet traditionally has grossly damaged muslim societies. I agree with Edip u will find most sahih hadiths not fulfilling the sahih criteria n r damaging n blasphemous to holly Prophet. How wud it sound if on eid day i greet any women by saying, eid mubarik u jahenmi or nakas tul aqal. Simple common sense tell us it is not at all approptiate greeting way. Or somebody is pathologically grandiose. After hearing the history of sahih bukhari n many fictitious hadiths the whole book loose its authority. Abu Hurara wud become an unreliable source, which is oneajor narrator besides contradiction n scanty informations. Yet without varifying scholars n people readily gives referrences; rasool e karim nay farmayah hai. Surely we know little about Quran n more follow such hadiths. The proportion of hadiths rejected by Bukhari as weak (which seems a false statment although) is staggering. Its about 99% and u can minus further about 80% from the sahih stuff if u analyse like the way u analyse this mesogemous hadith.
