Fascinating story and Mufti is a great storyteller, But I wonder to what degree these sources describe what really happened. It seemed like it was written by anti-Abbasids writers.

@@mirrorreflection3479 The problem with Medieval Islamic history is that it never went through the filtration of secular academic investigation, unlike Roman history for example. Each source needs to be studied in its cultural and historical context and compared to other sources from other places and of authors from different religious and political views and compared to modern sources such as archeology and inscriptions and so on. This is obviously not the work of one person but what is needed is an academic movement in this field. We are lucky to have an insanely large Arabic medieval written tradition that we can start with but we have to remember these are actual raw ancient books we are talking about.

@@user-hh2is9kg9j Yes I agree there could be so much mix up and confusion with some favoring their own narrative while trying to bring down the other side's agenda. However, without a contradictory residual text available we have no choice but to accept these items especially when different schools of thought agree on the main theme. Yes details can vary but we should be speaking with concrete substance rather than mere possibilities.

Mufti. How accurate can these stories be? Since history is written by the victors, maybe the whole story is concocted by the soldiers to justify their reason. A bit convenient that she wouldn’t give 50k. Amazing story nonetheless but a lot of these stories are probably short on fact.
