Versions after the officially last release of SMBX allows one to use scripting to create new entities; there exists entire elaborate boss fights within unofficial versions of SMBX created through scripting, alone. Example boss fights made through this manner include against Masked Dedede, and a computer program that fights through beam attacks and distorting the playfield. (The latter boss fight is fought as a Mudkip; essentially a reskinned Link made to look like a Pokémon).

Just imagine bullet hell shmup bosses in MUGEN. I’d like to see Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Sapphire, Gaiares, Gradius, various bullet hell shooter bosses and more shmup bosses of that type. Imagine all the bullet patterns characters have to dodge. I especially want to see Hyde facing Queen Larsa, that would be awesome. Will he stand a chance with his sword or be ultimately defeated by Queen Larsa’s crazy-ass bullet pattern?

Imagine a ton of RPG bosses in MUGEN. Imagining Chrono Harlaown facing Izanami (including her true form) from Persona 4 or Signum facing Xehanort but his younger self from KHIII or someone facing all those Mario & Luigi bosses, man the possibilities are endless.
