@@MugnifyRTS I’m sure tons of people have commented about this, but if not, I’d be doing you a disservice to not point this out. If you think your mind is blown now, you should check out how Maynard delivers these lyric syllables to the Fibonacci sequence (a mathematical sequence in which each number is the sum of the previous two numbers, e.g. 1-1-2-3-5-8, etc). Gives a whole new meaning to “spiral out” when you consider that the Fibonacci sequence is called the “Golden Spiral” when graphed out. 🤯

You are right! Adam Jones, Danny Carey, and Justin Chancellor spend and absurd amount of time composing and completing the bass, drums, and guitar. They do it all together and record it. They then send the music to Maynard who writes the lyrics and sings them. Tool are full of masters of their craft. Maynard considers his voice as just an instrument and no more important than any other aspect of the music. Over the years he has started performing further and further to the back of the stage so he can hear his voice blend into the music, and so he isn't center. The guys are amazing. There is a lot of energy in their music. Danny Carey, and the others, are into sacred geometry and other esoteric ideas to try instill their music with something tangible. *edit* you should really see them live

Tool’s Lateralus isn't merely an album; it's an unparalleled masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of music and art as we know it. It exists in a realm of its own, an untouchable pinnacle that defies categorization. Listening to it, I can't help but feel that something otherworldly, something beyond our comprehension, has channeled itself through the band, bestowing upon humanity a divine gift. The entire album is a journey, not just of the spirit, but of the mind and heart. It's as though I'm embarked on a voyage with a cosmic companion who intimately knows my soul, understanding every nuance of my existence and all that I've experienced in this life and perhaps even beyond. It's as if the consciousness behind this creation comprehends us not just as physical beings but as eternal spirits, and it seeks to commune with our very essence. As the music unfolds, it's as though interdimensional beings are reaching across the fabric of time to share their wisdom and insight with us. The ethereal melodies and intricate rhythms pull me deeper into this otherworldly experience, and with each note, I feel a profound connection not just to the music but to something greater, something transcendent. Every track is a message, a revelation from a higher dimension to ourselves or even to the entire human race. It's a reminder that we are more than the sum of our physical parts, that we are beings with boundless potential, capable of connecting with the divine and embracing the mysteries of existence. Lateralus is not just an album; it's a cosmic transmission, a spiritual awakening, and a journey of self-discovery. It's a testament to the power of music and art to transcend the ordinary and touch the very core of our being. It leaves an indelible mark on the soul, a reminder that there are depths to our existence that we have yet to explore, and it beckons us to embark on this profound journey of self-discovery and enlightenment. In the realm of music, Lateralus stands alone, a beacon of light, a glimpse into the infinite, and a timeless masterpiece that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come. This album has done so much more than just fill my ears with captivating melodies; it has saved my life and transformed the very lens through which I perceive reality and all living things. It's not merely a collection of songs; it's a profound experience that has left an indelible mark on my existence. I was compelled to own this divine piece of history on vinyl, not just as a possession, but as a sacred relic that carries with it the wisdom of the ages. To hold it in my hands, unopened, is like cradling a treasure meant for the generations to come, a gift I plan to pass down to my son. Sharing this album, though, goes beyond just playing it for someone; it's about preparing them for a journey of the mind and spirit. It's about inviting them to experience it in the right state of consciousness, preferably under the influence of a substantial dose of psilocybin mushrooms. In this altered state, the music becomes a gateway to a higher plane of existence, a realm where the boundaries between self and other, time and space, blur into a magnificent tapestry of interconnectedness. And in those moments, when the music resonates with their very soul, I feel like I've given them the most profound gift, a gift that transcends material possessions and touches the essence of their being. It's a gift of awakening, of expanding one's consciousness, and of glimpsing the infinite mysteries of existence. This act of sharing Lateralus in such a way is not just an exchange of music; it's a profound act of communion, a sacred bond formed through shared experience and elevated awareness. It's a reminder that we are all interconnected, that we are all part of a cosmic tapestry, and that music has the power to unite us in ways that words alone cannot. So, as I hold onto this unopened vinyl, I know that its true purpose lies not just in being a collector's item but in being a vessel of transformation and connection. It's a legacy I will pass down, a gift I will share, and a reminder that music has the power to touch the very essence of our humanity, to awaken our spirits, and to bring us closer to the divine.

The entire song is based around the fibonacci sequence, where the previous two number added together make the next number in the sequence. An example is 2+3=5 then 3+5=8, 5+8=13 ect. The intro is 1:12 long, the first 3 numbers of the sequence. The syllables also follow this pattern. Black (1) then (1) white are (2) all I see (3) in my infancy (5) red and yellow then came to be (8) reaching out to me, let's me see (13) The entire fucking song is like this, all while telling us not to over think or over analyze...

You are correct. The poetry and vocal melodies are usually injected into the mix after the music is at least 90% done. Maynard claims to need to hear the sounds for inspiration in order to write. Tool is my favorite band of all time. I love tons of music, but they're my base, my home to come back to. I've been listening to them since the mid 90's and have heard all these songs countless times. I've seen them 10 times in concert over the years. One of my favorite things to do now is watch reaction videos to their songs, its so fun to watch people experience their music for the first time. Glad to see you liked it! Nothing quite hits like Tool, you get pieces from other music but it really is its own thing.

❤ the quality of Tool’s music is difficult to match as the lyrics touch upon the spiritual experiences of life that feel indescribable, and the band is able to patiently build a flow that draws you in and then gradually fill all space with powerful sound.

I've been saying for the longest time, Pink Floyd and Tool are the two most unique bands ever. No one has sounded like them and can't seem to replicate them.

I love the fact that you actually listen to the music and can physically feel the different parts. Not everyone has that ability.

The running joke is 3 aliens and an octopus walk into a bar. TOOL are definitely not your average garage born band. Very cerebral thinkers and masters of their instruments n craft..........artistry. Next level fam!!! Great reaction ✌

Artistry at it's finest! The depth is something else. Every listen can make every single song a different experience every. fucking. time. and it's beautiful and amazing and... everything. Raptured, in a word.

Welcome to the Tool Army brother! Get on, strap in and enjoy the ride. Spiral Out.. This was a beautiful reaction video. Probably my favorite of any reaction videos. To see a new love for TOOL blossom anew live is a true gift. You are correct in your thinking about the writing process. MJK has said that on several occasions. This song song is from the La-ter-al-us album. I think this whole album follows a psychedelic trip, or even a normal life in general, in search of higher consciousness & we have to let go completely to obtain that. As below and above, I imagine. "Thy will be done here on earth as it is in heaven"? Most of the rest I think is relating to a psychedelic trip. I need to send you some The music will help open up your journey, the words the guide for your journey. This album heals and you'll be a better person after it. Hit me up on IG man, same SN. I'd love to talk TOOL with ya and share everything I have collected since '94 :)

I just can't wait to see what your next Tool selection is. You have just scratched the surface and will now start to bleed. Remember to pick them scabs!!

The sound at the beginning is an ultrasound. It's actually two heartbeats. The heartbeat of the mother, and the child.

Meh. Personally it’s not that interesting. It’s a cool little fact but it’s never something that makes it better for me.

@@travispeterson8952 Maybe more interesting for those who have researched Cymatics and the Golden Ratio in nature, space, biology, magnetism etc. ..When you're literally going down the rabbit hole, seeing reality in a way you've never seen it before, it gets more relevant.

@@inphiknitfractal to me…it is just a cool thing. I think it’s a bit forced to show that THAT is the what makes it so great which is the opposite of art. Art is flexible and perspective to one’s own moment. - it’s neat. It had never made the song better or mean more to me. I enjoy math as much as any nerd though.
