I was a DJ at a skating rink in the mid to late 90's and even a decade later it was still a hit to skate to, along with other 80's freestyle type music.

This was a banger in the 80s clubs!! I missed the 70s because I was too young but I hit some prime music in the 80s. And those 80 babes loved to dance!!

I was a freshman girl in HS when this came out, and this dude I liked was a dj and he sent it out to me at a club (settle down, people, it was early 80s). It was the best of times and the worst of times. He broke my heart, but this song is so good I refused to make it remind me of anything bad. Still listening to this day.

Fun fact: That is not Shannons vocals on the hook at all. It is actually a white man named Jimi Tunnell who worked with the producer Chris Barbosa on many hooks during the freestyle explosion which this song set off. His voice was like butter. You should check out My heart gets all the breaks by Monet. They showed out.

Oh man, 1984 Prime clubbing years 3-4x a week! When song would come on at the club, the dance floor would fill UP and people would dance the hell out of this song! There's nothing like dancing all night long drenched in sweat. I still love dancing! Back then, music videos were mostly crap. It was expensive and new artists just didn't have the budgets for slick videos. They just cobbled together a few dancers and colored lights and that was it.

I was only 8. But will NEVER forget this song nor the time I 1st heard it. And from what I've read she's 1 VERY cool individual.

YES! My time 😀! I lived in the clubs in the 80's (the real ones, with all kinds and colors of people; not the popish top hits ones); it was all about the dancing (and drinks, lol) till 4:00 AM ❤. The DJ (that's what we called them; really they were creators, putting techno beats and sounds together) that created this beat never intended for it to have vocals; a producer brought Shannon's vocals to it and when he heard it, he cried. The rest is history! Do you want to know Shannon's better song that was even bigger on the Dancefloor in Brooklyn? "GIVE ME TONIGHT". 🔥That one still makes me STILL makes me break out in full song and dance. With Shannon you are dipping your toe in the "Freestyle" genre water. Love it!!!

Just found your Channel, yo. This song was used in the 1980s movie "Breaking All the Rules" Even from a synth arrangement structure - it's really done well. The bass lines - the synth pads... all well done. Not to mention Shannon is totally alluring.

During the 80s I was in my twenties and whenever I went to a Christmas party or a wedding reception I would ask for this song to be played and the DJ's never ever had it so I went out and bought the record and took it with me to those parties from that point on and if they didn't have it I gave it to them to play it was my favorite song to dance to along with some ZZ Top

This song and songs like it when I was a kid, gave me my love for breakbeats and the 90’s rave scene i think later. I can’t point it out, but it’s a similar kind of feeling when I hear the two music styles (not feel as in by sound, feel as I’m by goosebumps and that feeling in your chest when you hear something you really love). Although, this song does have an old school Florida kind of breakbeat feel to it.. I may have even heard it sampled.
