Ali and Joe Frazier were never friends, they could have conversations, but it always come down to a competition or rivalry. When Ali was stripped of his title, Joe Frazier would give him money, Ali would jump the vehicle and turn on Joe Frazier, the promotion, Butch Lewis, would witness this same thing. Not to say Joe Frazier was not a good fighter, Ali and Frazier is a huge feud and rivalry. I will give it to Joe in the first fight for having great determination and stamina, even though he ended up in the hospital for a month after the "Fight of the Century". Muhammad Ali had a cracked jaw with a hour visit to the hospital. Ali/Frazier rivalry brought on, Leonard/ Hearns, Bowe/Holyfield, Pryor/Arguello, Gatti/Ward. The non stop action fights.....

@@abduljaleelwilliamson679 lmao, he did not almost knock out Frazier! Frazier got pummeled against Foreman, went down over 6 times and still got up every time. It took the referee stepping in for Joe to stop. And Foreman is way more powerful than Ali! Also in the third fight, his health issues had caught up to him by then, kidney issues, liver problems, back issues, genetic high blood pressure, and blindness in one eye were all issues he dealt with from as early as his amateur fights. Frazier never actually had a full and healthy training camp. Also, Ali said in his biography that if Futch didn’t stop the fight he was going to quit. Some people say that he wouldn’t have and that it’s an exaggeration but it really isn’t. He was telling his corner to cut the gloves but his coach looked at Futch and Frazier arguing and he told Ali “no”. Futch ended up telling Frazier “Son, no one is gonna forget what ya did here tonight! Listen to me!” And Frazier put his head down and said “alright”. Frazier had something to prove in this fight with Muhammad Ali, he needed to cement his championship status. This is why Frazier trained hard and got himself trim 206 lbs. If he had done so with Foreman he would’ve been conditioned to weave away from Foreman’s punches and land those body blows he was infamous for. Foreman was capable of knocking him out off course but it would’ve been a different fight all together. By the time he faces Foreman in 73, Ali 74 & 75 & Foreman once more in 76 he allowed his desire and hunger to be champion to slip in his training. This is why I base my standard of Frazier from 68 to 71.

The proof was in the pudding after Smokin' Joe was stopped by George Foreman. The latter never regained the heavyweight title again, PERIOD!!! However, the late Joseph William Frazier was one of the true exponents of the heavyweight division during its classic era of heavyweight boxing. Michael Gerard Tyson would have never dealt with this kind of consistency, delivered by Ali or Frazier, PERIOD!!!

This what hyping up a fight really looks like! This became the template of all future boxing pre-fight press conferences!

With the trash talking and even in the boxing ring I bet Ali and Frazier were best friends this was funny 😂
@HankFinkle113 жыл бұрын
They were absolutely NOT best friends. There was an abundance of real animosity leading to this fight.

He was okay with it when it was playful but of course Ali ended up taking it too far.

BOXERS NEED TO talk smack to sell those tickets but Ali was too far away & that's why frazier really hated him

I was only 8 years old when this fight took place--but I STILL remember all the hype surrounding it. EVERYBODY talked about it--the buildup was unlike anything I've seen to this day!! It became a social referendum--the hippies and radicals were for Ali--the conservative, blue collar, working man types were for Frazier. It didn't seem possible that the fight could live up to all that intense scrutiny but it did--IMHO it surpassed it!! Ali that night beats ANYBODY except Joe. Joe that night beats ANYBODY!! Two incredible warriors fighting like their lives depended on it!! No sporting event has ever surpassed it!!
