I grew up about 20 minutes from the camp. I remember my father taking me there the first time when I was just a grade school kid, maybe 8, I was in complete awe at the time and the camp was very active. There were boxers training in the gym, not sure who it was, but Ali was not there at the time. It didn’t matter to a young boy feeling like he was walking on sacred ground. That feeling has never dissipated. I have returned to the camp several times throughout my life and every time, I feel like that kid again. Anyone who has the opportunity to go needs to be sure to do so. The countless stories of Ali being an active part of the community around here are the stuff that make the entire legend of the greatest champion in the world even better. One example, Ali would umpire local little league games on occasion. How humble of a man to be the greatest, yet take the time to do something for the local kids? I haven’t been up the hill in probably ten years, seeing your awesome video is going to change that however. I’m now having the itch to get back to that special place and will do so in the coming weeks. Thank you for the great tour.

Thanks for doing this. I was born and raised in the area and I was living there during Ali's training days. Thanks for bringing attention to an area that is populated by some of the nicest people you ever want to meet and are very appreciative that Mohammed Ali, the greatest fighter who ever lived, was kind enough to build that camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania.

You may already know this Jordan. But Elvis used to go visit Muhammad Ali at his deer Lake training camp. There’s an article online from the Philadelphia Inquirer, with a story that Muhammad Ali told. About the time Elvis came to visit him at the training camp and stayed for two weeks. He tells a story about he talked Elvis into going to nearby Pottsville to a little bar. They went in the back door, Elvis had a towel on his head and got up on stage. He sang you’re nothing but a hound dog. I always thought that was a cool little story and you might appreciate it.

Back in the day, I was at a Laker game, good seats. Mohammad Ali came in late w a Forum handler. Handler sat isle seat next to Ali handing out autographs. Ali wasn’t doing great at this time and watched about a quarter. Norm Nixon was bringing the ball down court as Ali stood up to leave. Nixon stopped dribbling and every single player faced the Champ and cooly payed their respect. When Ali entered a tunnel the game simply resumed. No back court call or anything. It was a beautiful moment! Thanks Jordan

He had a lot of great fights but the best one was with the US government for refusing induction. Forced to speak at colleges but they stripped him of his title and boxing license, he helped to create a tidal wave of resistance against the Viet Nam war. He went from hated to beloved in his lifetime. I was lucky enough to meet him and get autographs. He did magic tricks for us and shadow boxed with my son. He believed that doing good deeds would reward him with a better place in heaven. He was the definition of charm and charisma. God bless him. Thanks again Jordan for taking me to a place I always wanted to go but never did. I feel I was there with you. Wish Jah could have been there in the ring! Safe travels......
