I remembered this one. It never materialized. This was before the draft induction.

And Floyd had been preparing for this fight snce he recovered from his back injury, after the 1965 fight .I visited his Training camp in Marlboro NY before he had signed to fight Cooper and he had a sparring partner from Dundees stable that used the Ali-Ellis style. It paid off as the Ellis-Patterson bout was one of Floyd's best. An Ali fight at that time would have been a 15 rounder, what a shame.

1967 Floyd ended up fighting Jerry Quarry in California instead.. THe fight was a Draw but it was clearly a hometown decision that got Jerry into the WBA Heavyweight Tournament.

Wow never knew this, Ali actually signed to fight Floyd Patterson in 1967 as his last fight before being inducted? The fight would have been scheduled for April 25, he didn't get inducted until April 28 i wonder why the fight didn't happen

Yeah, Floyd made a clean ko of Cooper in 4 (WAtch Ali bradcasting that one with Cossel on you tube) a guy Ali couldn't put down, to get back in the ratings. He followed with a 3Rd KO of Willie Johnson and a 1rd KO of Ken MCMaurry.

Nah Patterson was beating Ali in the second fight while liston never came close

@@LeftHookLegend Ali was winning the Patterson rematch on the judges' scorecards. I think Liston had a stronger claim to a title shot than Patterson. He was a more feared opponent and he'd knocked out Patterson twice in just over four minutes.

I hope everyone realizes that this was not the MSG fight . This fight never took place. The MSG fight took place some 5 years later . I heard Ai say Las Vegas but I recall them trying to get it in Pittsburg PA. Floyd even went down there and KO'd Billl McMauraay in one round to stir interest in an Ali fight there.
