In the above interview at this point kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJC5k6KiltBlh80 Ali shouts "I don't get hit...". Liston replies "That's what I'm afraid of" (if you listen closely). Earlier in this interview Sonny told the press he trained for 15 rounds of running and fighting. Sonny Liston and his team WERE prepared for Ali's running, movement and speedy defense tactics. He knew it would be difficult to hit Ali. Although he fought very well many folks mistakenly believe Ali dominated Liston in this fight. In fact Liston fought well too. One judge had Liston winning after 6 Rounds, one had Ali ahead and the third judge had it even. Liston had trained hard for a long fight (even though he flashed two fingers in response to Ali holding up 8). His plan was to pressure Ali and finish him in the later rounds. Watch Liston's win in his brutal slug fest with Cleveland Williams (1st fight) if you think Sonny didn't answer the bell for the 7th Round because of two abrasions under his eyes. Liston could and did take much more powerful punches than Ali hit him with in Miami. Sonny Liston stopped because of a serious shoulder injury, later verified by an independent doctor (so his purse would be released). He tore his shoulder in Round 1 exacerbating an injury that occurred in training. The only "trouble" Liston and his corner feared at the end of Round 6 was that Sonny was a one-armed boxer.

In some reports according to Liston's sister, she puts his birth year even as early as the 1920's which is astounding considering there is no official record of his birth. Liston was a better puncher than Clay, but, he wasn't fast enough, didn't prepare himself well enough and he also could've been a lot older than they said he probably was at that time. His personality however was much more humble - better in my opinion - than Ali's. But, he lost, fair and square. Ali did a great job in the ring with Liston.

Ali was humble . Look at what he did outside the ring. Funny that there are people who can’t see that he was obviously putting on a show to entertain the people and to get them go see the fight, and after every match i saw him compliments his opponents even when they weren’t really good he still complimented them , he was a humble down to earth man who loved people and doing good things. He even said that he was only acting like this to make the fight exciting and so they can sell the fight. He made boxing entertaining and made boxers more interesting rather than them just setting quit and not entertaining and taking everything seriously.

Lets not get carried away. Sonny was done because he re-tore an injury in his arm that he had suffered during training in the 1st round. Not because of "Ali's fury". Ali wasn't even close to being as hard of a puncher as Cleveland Williams, and Sonny had taken all of Cleveland's best brutal shots.
