Great video, my friend! As a locksmith in the UK of 46 years, our ideas of security greatly differ though! we tend to fit a 5 lever mortice deadlock a third of the way up the door, and a rim automatic deadlatch, a third of the way down, spreading the brute force attack better than having the locks close together Locks tend to come with 7 inch box striking plates, but the better ones come with 10 inch box plates and we tend to fit a London bar on the frame, which is like a metal strap on the frame to reinforce further. coupled with hinge bolts (steel studs) on the hinge side, doors are very secure against a jemmy or kick in attack!

I am in Henderson (Las Vegas) hope to build a house soon, I hope to hire you to make it difficult to break in. A burglar got the front door open and only the door chain remained and my mother shut the door again and they left. She did not know they tried to break in, it was very windy and she thought the wind did it. Dog barked as if something was wrong, and dog was scared. Next morning, we saw what happened. When you are violated you want someone like you to oversee it. Life depends on it. I want all doors and windows secure as can be.

Nope. Its not the cup that does the spread protection, but the strike plate itself. HOWEVER, the cup is there to strengthen the structural integrity of the strike plate, so the hole could not be bent open so easily. Remember that its the 2 ball bearings in the deadbolt that provides the spread protection. See it as 2 deadbolts coming out of the deadbolt. If you imagine in your head how that works, they will extend behind the strike plate, preventing the bolt from being forcibly pulled out of the strike plate using a crowbar or similiar. So here is the deal: If you install a alternative strike plate, MAKE SURE its structural strength is similiar to the cupped strike plate. You don't neccessarly need a cup - its just so Mul-T-Lock can use a thinner material in the strike plate itself. Also make sure the WIDTH of the hole is as close as the bolt width as possible. You can very easily test this by holding the strike plate against the lock on the door, with the door open, and then extend deadbolt. It should now not be possible to slide the strike plate off the deadbolt even tough you are holding the strike plate in your hand. If you can slide off the strike plate off the deadbolt, then the hole in the strike plate is too large. Also, you usually want a strike plate with as small hole as possible in the deadbolt location, as this means more material, and more difficult to use raw force to cause the hole to get widened. This means: if you use a thicker or larger or more structural sound strike plate, the cup isn't neccessary. The cup is there to compensate for lack of material and strength in the strike plate itself.

It’s also comes in brass, and I think bronze as well. Usually it’s included 2 keys in total and extra keys you’ll need to buy from a local dealer/locksmith store that sell and duplicate those keys

Ok I bought two of these deadbolts double cylinder Mt5 Hercular captive key 800 and the locksmith modified it to fit because it wasn’t working I was told it shouldn’t be modified now I’m worried that the security of the deadbolt had been compromised. What do you think ?

Did not show how to install this lock if your door thickness is less than 1 1/2 inch. My door thickness is 1 3/8. The manual said to use rosettes, I have no idea what that is. Rosettes definitely did not come with the lock.

what is the difference in a Cronus vs Hercular. Is the installation basically the same?

The Hercular is Grade 1 High Security Deadbolt as you can see in the video ans the Cronus version is light commercial grade 2 deadbolt but with the Mul T Lock cylinder. For security in general the Hercular is much more secure

This is an excellent question... unfortunately the Wyze lock is not compatible with the MT5+ Hercular Deadbolt But there is another way to do it. I’ll explain it to you later today

What you would need is a 'Key in knob' cylinder in a Mul-T-Lock keyway. That being said, (usually) only commercial locksets can house a K-I-K cylinder. But it can be done. I've done many on residential homes using commercial locks with Mul-T-Lock if they chose to have top and bottom locks. But usually, the bottom would be a passage lever and the "lock" portion of the door is locked by the DeadBolt.

You’ll need to find a local Authorized dealer that will be able to duplicate keys for you. If you can’t find anyone around you so you’ll have to look little bit Further, usually Big cities have few locksmiths that can make you those keys. Also you can check on Mul T Lock website for dealers around you and call in advance to make sure they do make the MT5+ keys duplicates

Not installing that strike plate will lower the strength of the installation. Any good locksmith knows how to install the strike plate without ruining the frame. You are ripping your clients off by not installing that strike.

With high security lock we always install a security strike plate, We are definitely not ripping anyone off. In this video I didn’t focus on that because I didn’t have a frame and because the main purpose is the MUL T LOCK MT5+ But we always recommend to upgrading security with a better strike plate

Silver Eagle locksmith! Phooey! Put in a barracade bar! And a decent lock! Most people don't have the money to put in steel doors and door frames! And with specialized locks where do you get keys made? Medeco and Multi locks? Phooey! Buy a decent Kwikset and install a barracade bar or some such thing! You get sick and can't get to the door, hope you left a window unlocked! God you can spend a small fortune on locks and still not be secure! Your door and door frame have to also be strong! And you lock yourself out then what? Don't buy locks that you can't have keys made easily! You can always take your locks to a Lock shop and they can put mushroom pins in the lock and vary the springs for you! Three inch screws will do little in a pinewood door frame! Or with a cheap door!

First....calm down. As a former locksmith there was a saying at my shop....Security and peace of mind isn't expensive, it's PRICELESS. That being said, anytime I would install locks on or rekey a home or business I would advise them to look into getting a security alarm due to the fact that locks are not meant to keep perpetrators out indefinitely, they are there to slow/"stop" them until the authorities arrive and deter or detain said person(s). Of course putting a $250 deadbolt on a $45 door isn't very clever, but if the customer wanted it after I've explained to them my hesitation in installing my Mul-T-Lock, then I would oblige. And not having keys made easily is a great sense of peace of mind. This means that no one, except those authorized will every have a key made to your home or business. As far a mushroom pins....well, that's just laughable. Again, there are other types of nice Grade 1 locksets out there other than Mul-T-Lock that customers could go with, your Home Depot / Lowes is not the way to go, if you're looking for security. They keep the door closed and locked (and that's great....) but ultimately talk to a Locksmith if you're looking for something a little more serious.
