Why would you have expected them to be spring loaded? They are positively controlled in both directions by the track in the key, so it is not needed. I think that the spring loaded sliders are a TINY bit easier because they make it easier to detect when the slider is in the true gate.

The UL Rating used to refer to pick and drill resistance. UL would allow 10 minutes for drilling with standard tools, something a thief would carry. Same for picking, UL would allow 10 minutes with standard tools. I would consider the picks your using as standard tools. So, when you have a UL listed lock picked in about 6 minutes.... Goes to show the skill picking a dimple lock, with a sidebar - in about 6 minutes. That takes some skill.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Yes, picks do qualify as the tools contemplated by UL437, and the rating is a joke. All full-sized MTL's with the extra drill protection are UL rated, and you've seen how fast I can pick though the classics and interactives. Same for the TuBAR locks, Duo, etc. Same for the ASTM pick rating.

This is going to sound strange, but its not so much that I feel movement in the slider, but more that I don't feel binding. I know that doesn't make that much sense, but it's true. The movement is subtle -- the binding is not.

My locksmith recommended the Interactive plus, bc the MT5+ allegedly has a problem with sticking or binding occasionally. I haven’t heard anyone else complain about this. Have you heard of or experienced this problem?
@MultiVde8 жыл бұрын
Got a question for you. I got yesterday a MT5 lock and to be quite honest I think they are easyer to open than the normal MTL with no interactive elements, do you have the same impression?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Tough to answer. First, put aside the interactive nonsense. That's for key control only. Actually makes picking easier because you know where the one interactive pin will set. Second, the type of pin matters. MT5 outer pins are all standard. SOme people think they are harder. I don't. I think they are using too little tension, whereas I use absurd amounts of tension. In addition, it's possible that some people don't realize that many MT5 cores are countermilled, which can be confusing if you are not expecting it. Personally, I think the hardest outer pin is the serrated drivers that can be found in Classics and Interactives... particularly when there paired with the spooled outer key pins. Third, the really hard part of MT5 pins is the way the inner driver and outer key pins lock together. Some post 2008 interactive locks have a similar system... and they are just as hard. That said, overall, I think the MT5 pins are the hardest because they are smaller (requiring more precision in picking inner and outer pins separately), and the way the pins lock together.
@MultiVde8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the thorugh answer. Then I need to find some more MT5s to compare, because the one I got the other day poped 10 min after I started playing with it. and for the next few hours I could open it in a few minutes. I will try to make a video soon.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Those are not unreasonably short pick times for someone experienced with MTL's (I assume you are not talking about the MT5+ with the sliders). It is definitely faster than my average, but it doesn't strike me as outrageous. Have you taken it apart yet to see if it is master keyed? You may find the video that I'm going to post shortly interesting... a master keyed MT5+. Oddly, the first MT5 I had was usually hard, and gave me a great deal of trouble... thus, I went for a while thinking these pins were harder than they are. While the interlocking feature is tricky, it is definitely pickable once you get used to it.
@MultiVde8 жыл бұрын

Actually you can open the Bowley Lock with the bypass tool in the picture link below. However the new Grade 2 Bowely Lock has a cylinder shield that has very close tolerance that the diameter of the shield is 1/32" smaller than the actual diameter of the lock hole so this bypass tool won't work on the new Bowley Lock. Plus the new Bowley Lock have a tolerance of less than 1/8" all around the throw bolt. And the Mul-T-Lock MT5+ above with the deadbolt version can be open with a similar bypass tool that can reach in and push the throw bolt open, as the cylinder shield of Mul-T-Lock MT5+ deadbolt version does not have a very close tolerance with the diameter of the cylinder shield 1/4"-3/8" smaller than the diameter of the lock hole. And there is a big gap all around the throw bolt that the cylinder shield leave open that does not exist in the new Bowley Lock grade 2. login.filesanywhere.com/FS/M.aspx?v=8c7268865995a37bb29c
