Mules and Hounds...Chihuahuan Desert Panthers ... {Diary of a Houndsman}

Are there Panthers in the desert? Mountain Lions, Cougars .. This time we are out with the male dogs .. heading out into the vast Chihuahuan desert to look for a Panther .. riding my mules with lion hounds on the ground we are in search of this elusive cat of the desert .. just want to see him.

I do wonder who and when they built that rock shelter ..was it indians..? We did trail the lion a long ways and all the hounds got real tired .. it was a good day !

Not sure where you are at, in southern AZ, those rock shelters are built by drug spotters, working their loads through the mountains.

I watch all your videos till the end, just love the sights and hearing the hounds. That shelter was a neat place, and respect to you for leaving it the way you found it. LEAVE BRETTS CAMRAS ALONE. Ant got no use for a someone who steals, I can just imagine being there in those beautiful places you hunt. Hopefully the hounds will see a lion before long to help them out. Yes sir had a few of them ol dogs pis on anything around, I have been trapping for a many of years cats are pretty hard .

I use a whistle now this year so far it seems to work if they are tired.

We used whistles on our bird dogs to keep them in closer but this is first year I ever tried it with the hounds

Brett,I-certainly enjoy finding the abnormal when out and about, and just to spend a little time trying to figure out why and what was going on at the time they were there .. as always… I enjoyed .. I guess your wife dont understand the 7 day grace period when hunting? Talking about male dogs peeing on everything, I own a fair /carnival food business, I can only have female dogs because of this, cant have dogs peeing on the kettlecorn popper during load up. Or deep fryers. Health dept would not like that at all.
