I'm seven years into my remote life. These old films would captivate me but not so much anymore. It's nice to be away from people but it is a hard life. In some ways my life is better that what Dick lived, but in some ways not as good. I have the luxury of LED lights, and lithium batteries. A small PV panel gives me all the power I need in the summer. A little more difficult in the winter. I was raised in the country and was prepared for my transition to a remote and solitary life. Still, it wasn't easy. The first several years showed where I failed to plan adequately. The life alone is difficult and takes planning to make the transition. The first five years were difficult. When I do visit the city and see people from my old life I hear them talk about their daily lives and think of how sad they truly are.

idk why they say he's never been sick... he was discharged from the navy for rheumatic fever. Still amazing his strength and independence at his age.

Omg when the bird flew down to him it was is so cool.This man built a beautiful cabin. A man living in nature is great and I hope to live off the grid soon after learning how to live in nature some more. I don’t know about moving to Alaska but I will move someone where there is lots of trees, wildlife and maybe mountains. After learning to build a decent shelter, I hope to find someone special to me to start a family. Thanks for reading this if you did. God bless you!

This guy was quite the craftsman. I met I think on the Parkstrip in Anchorage once. He was residing in the Pioneers Home at the time and sitting in the fresh air. We started talking about 16mm movie cameras some how and he mentioned he use to film some and made a movie. It would have been nice to have seen it then and know that he was the one that made did this project at that time. We would have talked more. I know I had this feeling of him longing to be in the bush. Good luck to sir wherever you are now. 🌲🌲

I’ve been wanting this show a while now I am a huge fan. Seriously a huge fan. I did not know this man passed away in 2003 I was so impressed 75 and he was still healthy as ox and never been sick a day in his life, that’s some truly amazing to me, when I first watched this 100 times I would cry and I said why am I crying because this man is so happy and content, eating smoke, fish and biscuits and trout with no music he don’t have to have any music when it gets too quiet to me turn on the TV for the company but I’m not I don’t believe the TV like that I have several so it’s not the fact that I don’t empty there’s just nothing I want anymore. I want this gentleman on PBS I ordered the DVD I still watch it every now and then it’s nice to have peace and quiet a nice neighborhood I live in it’s damn near impossible to keep their kids quiet, so I look at programs like this and them out there in the woods I was really worried about him at one time because you know he was going out there and sort of messing with nature sometimes nature, but we had turned on, but when he said he had his pistol, and he was OK, I was OKI hope you’re resting in heaven building a cabin in the sky❤

@@TimBrownSenorCafe he gave it to the Park Service when he left. And they have preserved it. He was an ally to the Park Service, telling them when poachers were in the area. This story has nothing to do with an evil government.
@tomr34225 жыл бұрын
some bears took it over and started raising a cub, until it was broken into and they were robbed, the suspect was never caught but local police have Goldilocks as the main suspect. The bears moved away after the trauma and the parks service took it over.
