As a grower and many year user of this plant up here in Oregon. I can confirm this episode! I've been growing this plant in my yard for years and using it.. The one thing they didn't cover and most likely won't cover is.. It's also a lung anti inflammatory. It can be dried and smoked to help clean and sooth lung/throat congestion.. Yes, it will make you cough, but that's the point. it almost 'scrubs' out the throat and lungs and allows you to get all the crap up and out. People around here do brew it, and it's also a common additive in "herbal cigarettes" The only thing I feel I should say is.. Negative side effects of it's use is 1. If you have hay fever or some form of plant allergy, it could trigger that since it's well.. a plant.. and possible side effect 2. it just won't work. That's all. Either it will work, or it won't. I smoke it myself.. I have mild asthma, and honestly this stuff helps me. (not saying it'll help everyone. it works for me). and some days it works, others it don't.. It also loves dry places. Most common area's to find it is around railroad tracks in the rocks. and if you hit the stock. the seeds go everywhere.. I started with 2 plants I grabbed, now I have a forest of the stuff in my backyard, and I love it.

Fun fact: German medieval botanist Hildegard von Bingen called mullein "wullein", which means as much as wooly herb (might be where the name originates?). Yet another (although seldomly used) name would be "bacon root" because the root turns red and tastes similar to bacon when cooked. -- The substance in the seeds said to be toxic to fish is called Saponin and can be used as a detergent because it reduces the surface tension of water, letting it soak into fibres more easily.
