Today I'm taking you to see a multi level HO scale layout. We are going to see Go Via or Go Home and his 3 level HO scale model train layout. Kris models a modern Canadian HO scale model train layout that focuses mainly on CN, Ontario Northland, Via, and Go Transit. This Huge HO scale model train layout travels across 3 levels of Canadian scenery and landscape. Kris grew up skateboarding and listening to punk rock, so model train graffiti is something that he respects and there is plenty of HO scale model train graffiti on the layout on several HO scale boxcars. Graffiti on HO scale boxcars is something that Kris never wanted at first but he realized the They Make It Like That!!
Thank you so much, Kris, for letting me do this modern HO Scale layout tour.

I was all about skateboarding and model railroading basically since birth. Older now and ankles so shot it’s just not something that makes sense to continue so I’m all a model railroad hobby. Also went through 5-6 layouts before my current and hopefully final, and I’m also doing my first triple decker with a modular helix. Modeling south coastal Texas in the 1910-1935 primarily golden era. So many similarities and if you could complete it than so can I!

@@TheyMakeItLikeThat trying my best, when all three decks are structurally completed, the drop in sections, the two hinged extensions, modular helix, and all the cork bed, track layed, and new system finally in, that’s when I’ll finally be able to run it, but it’ll likely be finished one level at a time, with the first one as soon as I can afford the ecu android wifi dcc system, and the lowest level once I get the modular helix, the top level although all three are basically flat land, the top will have grading based on it going through literal bayous, across a shipping channel, a River, and more marsh land before breaking into farm land, there’s likely going to be 1% grading changes when going over certain bridges, and a lot of foam carving to get a great representation of south Texas swamp land with wooden old school bridges with classic small steam doing all the hard jobs. Lastly, the layout will be completed when I complete upgrading the rolling stock, an additional 14 more small to mid sized steam and first gen switcher diesels, and 3D printed prototype structures. I truly hope when completed I can become a model railroad channel for anybody to enjoy and I love the KZbin hobby community in general. In Texas there’s not much model hobby trains or stores around you

Nice layout I was wondering if you could answer a question I have about the Ontario Northland. I have seen on this railway searchlight signals that are not functional,was it governed by ctc or abs at one time but no longer. Just curious

I got a crazy question but I am wanting to seriously do a layout with 2 or 3 levels but my concern is I will be running a lot of 86' boxcars so am I going to be able to use a helix that will be able to accommodate these really long boxcars with derailing everything ? Lol that's what I am seeing in my mind 😂 Awesome layout !!! Really nice !
@TheyMakeItLikeThat
@TheyMakeItLikeThat 2 жыл бұрын
That’s sounds like fun! One thing I would suggest would be to do a helix with a good sized radius. If you do HO, I would say around a 32 or 34” And also if you have room for it, try doing an oval. That gives the train a chance to rest so it doesn’t pull the longer cars over in the curves
@mikel5295

What heights are each of the levels?
@GoViaorgohome
@GoViaorgohome Жыл бұрын
First level bench top is 29.5” tall. You can sit on a chair at it comfortably. Second level is at 45” up from ground. A little less then eye level. Top level starts at 63”. Perfectly eye level but some parts go over my head. My layout is not flat like the real world. In some cases it’s right at bench level but others it goes up 4-5” with inclines and risers.
@RonStanek
@RonStanek Жыл бұрын
@Go/Via/orgohome yeah, I've sent this out to a few and it seems that the 1st level is at sit down level to fit knees under 25.5" - 27", then, most 2nd levels are at 45" and 3rd levels are at operators chin to eye height levels or so you can reach back parts, which would be armpit level. This would make 3rd level anywhere from 57" to 63".
@TheyMakeItLikeThat

@@GoViaorgohome thanks kris! I couldn’t remember the height. It would just be a guess from my end
