Kenny, once again another REAPER setting to add to my daily expanding tool box of Gioia wisdom & knowledge. I said before and I'll say again - Your work is the push I needed to open my mind and bring this DAW into the heart of my studio. REAPER IS : Rapid Environment for Audio Production, Engineering, and Recording in every sense of the description. First thing I do every day is fire it up and start digging and learning.

My favorite video so far. Lots of great nuggets here on a topic I used to struggle so badly with. Comping drums in reaper used to be worse than pulling teeth, mosaic hell!

I’m probably the person who has commented more than once on here. I haven’t gotten a response yet? I haven’t had the time to work on this a bunch yet. I’m recording my drums for a loop type Prog keyboard track that will be redone to my drum track I send him. I just recorded earlier today four takes. I have always had my drums sub mixed to one track for drums, one for Tom’s and one for overheads just to adjust in mixing overall. I don’t do this for a living. Anyway I never armed those sub mixes to record before so I tried today. I went to playback just to see if I could select on my one sub stereo track for drums and it didn’t work. I don’t think it even recorded my drums on to the sub tracks I have my drums routed to. I know I have routing set up right cause I can bring the volume of my whole kit up or down. Also overheads and Tom’s up or down. My point is for me I haven’t been able to record all my drums on one track to just compare my takes. When I click on one track soloed it turns into a stereo track. Very strange? Any other drummers who record themselves relate to this? I usually just punch in if needed but this thing I’m recording has no spots to punch. Otherwise it’s just delete every take again except for one and go with it.

I just made this happen. Preferences, ASIO driver to Focusrite USB ASIO, ENABLE inputs, Select 1st and last.

Hi, Kenny: I'm a subscriber to your channel and I really appreciate your valuable videos. I consider you to be a real Reaper specialist, and for that reason I have a question for you: I have worked on a musical theme with several virtual instruments, including some timpani and a snare drum, and everything is perfectly audible in Reaper. However, when I render it, in the WAV file resulting the timpani is barely audible and the snare drum is no longer audible. Why do you think this is? Thank you very much for your help and valuable advice.

Are you listening back on the same system?
@carlosgalan65232 жыл бұрын
@@REAPERMania Surprising, Kenny! I composed the music on my MacBook and the WAV file was playing there. Now I've just listened to it on a Windows computer... and I can hear the snare perfectly. What could be going on? Thank you very much, you are a master.

A new surprise, Kenny! I just found that the same music sounds different on my MAcBook if I use the standard Mac music player (where you can't hear the snare) and the VLC player (where you can hear everything perfectly). Surprising, isn't it! Do you have a recommendation for a good linear player that respects WAV music files? Thanks again.

That was great, I might have added how to save that as a template
@REAPERMania2 жыл бұрын
Templates aren't going to save the Item Groups though. Just the drum set up. The point of this video was to show you haow to switch takes with multiple tracks.

Right now I’m hearing all three of my 9 tracks of drums playing at the same time. I hope this will fix my problem! I did exactly what you said in the new video about setting up lanes and it didn’t work when I recorded another drum take. I currently have three takes just like you have in this video. I’m using the newest version of Reaper 7.15 I think it is? I’ll let you know if this works. Thanks for your videos!!

This is great! Is there by any chance a setting to group newly recorded items, or even better to assign a setting like that to selected tracks so all the drum items are immediately grouped per take, but you can leave out scratch instruments, etc?

What if you want to record tracks that change time signature a lot say - 6/8 for 12 bars and 4/4 for 8 and so on even 15/8 and 13/7 for more changeable prog tracks?

I have an Alesis electronic drum kit. I can connect it to record midi and play (hear it) back in real time. I can also play back the midi after recording. My problem is I cannot edit the midi in real time (I have to enter midi editor and adjust velocity for example just for loudness). I would like to be able to treat the midi drum beats like audio for the purpose of editing and mixing. Is this possible? I have searched your other videos and I saw the filtering and separate channels but is there a simpler way? Much gratitude if you can point it out.

I don’t have a “assign inputs sequentially” option.. I have no clue how to make this work Nothing in reaper v4.61 matches what I’m seeing in this video 😢

Same issues I’m having as with your other video I have no “routing” button on my 4 tracks.. I also don’t understand how you know which mic is which. I know you have them titled but still confused. I guess the first port would be “channel1” and so on?

Hi Kenny, let's say I record 3 takes like this, but I flub the same part all 3 times. If I wanted to use Stretch Marker editing within the takes to audition and edit together the best one, can I do so? Or do I have to commit/flatten to a single take before using Stretch Markers?

Also Shift+T switches to previous take, helpful if you have like ten takes and you go past the one you're after with the T key. Also this song sounds like John Mayer...ew lol
