Henry Foolman Alfredo might be my favorite QOTSA drummer. Grohl is obviously one of the better rock drummers ever and has a distinctive style that fit the SFTD era tunes well. Castillo had tempo issues but was an extremely powerful and propulsive drummer. Jon Theodore could be the most technically gifted of the bunch. Dean was great too. But Fredo just had that desert groove. While there are certainly a lot of highlights from the other guys, Fredo just had a feel that they never got back.

They were so much better back then. They made strange music and made it so memorable. The last Kyuss album, the first couple QOTSA albums, and the early Desert Sessions were the best of this genre. They were on to something unique and weird, but did it so well. It won't be duplicated. The desert era is over, done. But what a ride.

The Plastic Turk sessions is just a bootleg made up by a fan and distributed online. I have a copy of this bootleg. Notes follow "Queens of the Stone Age - The Plastic Turks Sessions (1997). 01 - Oppenheimer's Brother (Instrumental) 02 - Rickshaw In late 1997/early 1998, a tiny group named Queens of the Stone Age showed up at Jupiter Studios in Seattle to record a demo. The band at that time consisted of Joshua Homme, John McBain, Mike Johnson, and Alfredo Hernandez. The results of that demo are right here, 2 songs that have been never been officially released. Both songs are unique in that they both sound like songs that should have been on a Kyuss record like Welcome to Sky Valley. Oppenheimer’s Brother is a raunchy and chugging instrumental, and Rickshaw (also known as Sherbert) is a very heavy, psychedelic song with a riff that’s right out of … And The Circus Left Town. I found the best possible copies of the song out there, and put them together with proper tagging and (in true bootleg fashion) added some cover art I made. It’s not only an interesting piece of history for those that love the band, it’s a legitimately good first effort for the band. "
