Hi, Does igmp multicast works on different version? Example: router on v2 and host on v1. Are those version backword compatible?

Hi Sir, I have a query at time stamp 35:11 where dest_mac is 01:00:5e:00:00:16 and dest_ip is 224.0.0.2. May I know why there is a mismatch ? Generally in igmpv1 and V2 membership report messages we use multicast group as dest_ip and its correspondent mac as multicast dest_cast. May I know why there is such discrepancy. Thanks in advance.

@@fccclips Okay I assume you were checking w.r.t to 224.0.0.2 ? cause the multicast MAC of 224.0.0.22 is 01-00-5e-00-00-16. You can use an online tool to check it for yourself: www.dqnetworks.ie/toolsinfo.d/multicastaddressing.html

@@BitsPlease I mean to say, do all the igmpv3 membership reports will be sent to 224.0.0.22 ? Is this fixed since there is already information regarding specific source (1.1.1.1) and multicast group (239.1.1.1) in group address field? This is my main query

@@BitsPlease got it Sir, by default all the igmp v3 report messages are sent to 224.0.0.22 to which all igmpv3 capable multicast routers can listen. Thank you for your quick response.
