In this video we will teach you how to use your drone's histogram feature and EV meter to make sure you are getting correct exposure for your videos and stills. Once you master the histogram and EV meter, you will dramatically improve your image quality.

Although I have a drone I was looking for tips on how to use EV on my Canon 5DMark iv. Mission accomplished. Thanks.

I got a bit confused at the 3:23 mark, "if I'm shooting at 1/30 of a second". Did you meant to say "if I'm shooting at 30 frames per second"?

Yes. Good job. You even answered your own question. I don't understand then, why you even wrote the comment.

Which do you recommend setting first, exposure or white balance? I have a Mavic Mini and am limited to just those.

Hi, understandable to use histogram, very well explaned. I missed the images in your video the difference between histogram switched on and off. Iam a drone pilot starter (but I’ve a official certificate in The Netherlands) and a woman, so it helps me that you have showed the images. Anyway, I liked your video. I will try the histrogram totdat :-)

Question? If your EV is +3, (or three stops,I think!) and you bring it down to 00 or +1, Why would you need a ND filter? Thanks for sharing. I always use the histogram. Chuck.

Great question! For stills, you don't need an ND in that situation. For video, you would need to see what your shutter speed is. If you are shooting 24fps then your shutter should be around 1/48th, for 30fps it would be 1/60th, etc. Without an ND filter when shooting video, I have seen shutter speed upwards of 1/4000 which will look very jittery when played back.

Hi Kerry, Thank you for this video, I’m a beginner, I just got a histogram warning on my MA2 while filming a lighthouse. Only the lighthouse displayed with a “histogram” type image on it. Or better said, it had “black and white” just on the lighthouse, the rest of my shot was fine. I had the sun behind me on a very sunny day and the drone was about 50 ft in front of the lighthouse. The lighthouse has a bright white paint on it. I then tried the DJI ND 16 filter and it seemed to eliminate the “histogram”. Would a higher ND filter be a better filter to use.? I’m queued the next video on ND filters. Thank you for your time and consideration

Hiya, it’s ok saying that you should check histogram, but when it needs adjusting, How do you adjust it? It’s ok to keep shooting off in different directions, please would it not be better for the novice to, have instructions on How to adjust the Histogram first, and show the benefits! Then create another video for Filters, etc! ( just a thought)

You adjust using Shutter and ISO as well as aperture if your camera has one.

Same thought here .Yes, look at histogram but okay, its all jacked up so what do i do now? You kind of have to keep the shutter at 2x frame rate but that doesn't always move the histogram much (in my experience). Almost every day here in the northwest is overcast, so i almost always seemingly have an overexposed image. Should mention, i do use ND filters.
